I know these are not in the same class, but not having any experience with projectors (this being my first projector purchase), is there really going to be a significant difference between these projectors? I am just trying to figure out if the extra $500 for the HC4000 is really worth it or not. The Acer has a great contrast ratio.

My setup:

I am having my basement finished by a contractor. 2 small block windows are in the basement. The basement will have basic canned lighting. White drywall.

I am thinking of going with a gray screen. Would that maybe limit the difference?

Possible screen:

Any thoughts on this screen and the proposed projector/screen combo?

I'm a happy hc4000 user, love the projector, it's not perfect but in it's price class theres not anything that can beat it...if your not RBE sensitive and can live with the placement restrictions (no lens shift) then the mits wins hands down...it also comes down to how much tv vs gaming vs moving watching you are going to do, I watch a lot of movies so the mits wins that easily...here is a shootout that projector central just did with most of the below $1500 projectors listed....

if you have any specfic questions about the mits wander over to the official hc4000 thread...

If it's your first projector then you will most likely be satisfied with the Acer. However if you compared the two side by side you would probably pick the Mits.

if you want to save money get a refurb mits hc3800, the 3800 would still be better than the acer...imho.
