Hi all,

I am planning a Home Entertainment System and very much considering the Mitsubishi 48511
http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/PDFs/platinumSpecs2003.pdf

and a HTPC including P4PE system with ATI AIW 9700 Pro http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/a...pro/index.html,

firewire, DVD.

It seems to me that it is a good choice with VGA, Component and the control options available.

Does anyone have this combination?

Does Netcommand communicate with PC's?

Firewire control or IR?

Any ideas on limits of control?

My goal is to have usability of entire family including the technically challenged.

Any views / advise greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Eddie

The set you've chosen should be very good, I have the 46" version and I'm very happy. However, if I could trade it for the 48" set I would... bigger = better (to a point.) Get the biggest set that your viewing room will accomodate, but not so big that you feel like you're in the front row at the movies. Unless you like that seating.

My set does not have Necommand, so I can't answer that one.

Family friendly is harder to answer, HTPC is getting better, but in my opinion, not there yet. When it reaches TiVo like controllability, then I would consider HTPC family friendly. In my household, TiVo is right on the line for the family friendly qualification. Took a while to get the wife checked out, and she still gets frustrated when something happens that she's not expecting.

Check out Best Buys, they have a Hp Media computer for about 2K, that has the new MS Media Center software. The front end was pretty slick, getting close to TiVo like functionality.

Go see it before making any computer decisions.
