Mitsubishi 52725 and Firewire - Not working??

206 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  zzzzdoc
I have a Panasonic PV-GS400 Camcorder with a Firewire output. When I plug this into my Mitsubishi 52725 set, the firewire is noticed by the TV, and I am able to control play, Rew, FF, etc.. from the TV remote, but no audio and video come through to the TV.

Is there something I am doing wrong??? Is there a setting on the camcorder that I am missing, or is the TV defective?

This will not work. The firewire ports on the 525/725 are there to give you a compressed mpeg2 digital video connection between a digital tuner or recorder (i.e. some Moto cable boxes, or a DVHS machine). The TV does not have an mpeg2 encoder so it cannot accept DV video from a camcorder.

The 825 model will have an mpeg2 encoder, it will be able to digitize and encode analog video as well as digital video from a camcorder.
Bummer, heavy sigh. So all this does is allow an expensive connection to use the TV remote control to hit the play button.

Would a Mini-DV deck like the Panasonic AG-DV2500 or AG-DV1000 serve this purpose, or would the TV react similarly? What I am looking for is a direct digital connection from my Digital Camcorder and my TV, without the D/A and A/D conversions.

Or, as a last resort, does anyone make a Mini-DV player with Component outs, not just S-Video or composite?
