I just rented the DVE HD Basics (Blu Ray).

I was trying to set the brightness and contrast with this disc.

and perform the rest of the calibration.

This stuff is way over my head, even after watching the same explanation over and over again, Im still lost. Setting the pluge levels etc.

I think the issue is, it tries to explain why you set things and not so much on how..... then you're left with a test pattern and you're on your own.

I've seen web tutorials on using the similar SD Calibration productions and what you should be looking for when raising your levels and lowering.

Equip is

Sony BD 350 Player (HDMI)

Mitsu HC5500

Any help is appreciated!

In planning how you will proceed in seeing where the combined (player + tv) is at, be sure to check in your BluRay's setup menu for the Video adjustments section. In mine, there are settings for Standard, Theatre, Dark Room, Light room, and some user definable presets. I believe you would want to start there before proceding forward with adjusting your tv's controls. Get things as close as you can with the players controls, and then see if the tv's controls will help after that.
