Hi hardwired.
1)How does this Mitsubishi DVHS digital recorder stack up against the JVC in terms of reliability and compatability?
We don't have much durablity information on the Mits deck. But from a poll that is listed on this forum, the JVC is running a 15 to 20% percent failure rate. Personal I don't think JVC products are built to the same quality level as Mits. I already have a Mits D-VHS deck and have had no problem with it.
"2) I understand the JVC has an ATSC decoder with 1080i component video and AC3 output (an attractive feature for me) and is D-Theater capable. Since I am not concerned with D-Theater that much and I am willing to use the MyHD card as the HD decoder, I am looking for an alternate archive mechanism.
The JVC does not have an ATSC decorder in it. It has an MPEG decoder with 1080i componant video output. Since you are not concern with playing D-Theater and the HD PC card will provide the componant video output, then the Mits deck will be your best bet.
3) every month or two to pop the lid, scrub the heads, pinch the roller, and do a voodoo chicken dance is not an acceptable option for me whether it's a Mits, Pannie, JVC, or Broksonic.
It has been noted on this forum that only the JVC deck has had these problem with the pinch rollers ETC.
I think that owners of Penny D-VHS can speak to their duriablity. The Mits deck should be more trouble free then the JVC.
