I know that there is a long discussion on the Mitsubishi Promise Module (Mits PM), but I know that the discussion assumes that the reader knows what the Promise Module is supposed to accomplish.
I don't consider myself an A/V guru, however, I don't consider myself a naive user either. But for the life of me I cannot figure out why I would want the Mits PM. I own a Mitsubishi WS-48311, a Hughes DirecTV HD receiver, and a Sony Surround Receiver. From what I can tell, the Mits PM is essentially a over the air HD receiver. If this isn't true, then what is it?
The documentation says that it doesn't add any input format capabilities (so if the TV doesn't accept 720p, then it still won't accept 720p). If I already own a HD receiver, what is the benefit? If there isn't any, then that's fine I can deal with that. I just can't get the answer from the official source.
Thanks for answering this question to a confused consumer.
