I know this has been talked about in other threads, and I also know I'm new here... but I thought I'd post something for people that seem to have this issue to post all the thoughts and ideas about it in... (and maybe a fix).

Anyway... after reading about the "issue" I checked my 52525 using the internal overscan "thing" by hitting "TV Menu-2-4-5-7-Rewind".

My TV is scanning at 6% on the bottom, 7-8% top left, and 10% top right.

I believe this is the same issue others have reported. With this "distortion", it does appear to be "tilted", but in reality, it's the way the image is distorted.

I'm not sure if anyone has thought of this or not... but here's my theory and question about this...

Is this due to the fact that "basically" a projector is displaying light on a screen... and maybe the projector is off center... producing a "stretch" effect??

Maybe some will remember from school (and the old over head projector), when it wasn't sitting perfectly "straight" with the wall or screen, you could get a distortion of the image... sometimes just in one corner.

Anyone remember that?.... and if so, is this the same issue with the Mits DLPs?

Thoughts??

There's an extensive thread on this (including fixes) if you do a search (sorry I haven't figured out how to link it here in my message yet). Seems like an easy adjustment from the posts.

If you type "Mitsubishi" and "tilt" into the search field in the RPTV forum (main section for these threads) you'll see one called something like "Blame Game" that has a lot of detail. Much of the information is cross posted in the 525 Owners thread that you should see listed there as well.

Hope this helps and congrats on the TV...hope to join you soon.

Thanks... I'm pretty new to these kinds of "high-end" forums.

I found the thread you're talking about... looks like I have a lot of reading to do. :)

Maybe you (or someone else) could help me one more time...

Couple things:

1) What are the names of these "DVDs" people have to check the color of they're screens and adjustments?... also, where can I buy one?

2) They've been talking about "keystone" this and that and how to make the adjustments... are they finding this info in the manual or somewhere else?... I've neve owned a RPTV before... I've only ever owned CRTs and my only other HDTV was a Samsung 27in from about 3 years ago.

3) I really need more info on the "shield" on the 525 vs 725.... I know glare is the main issue, but does having the screen in place effect the "rainbows" at all?... or "sharpness"?... is it UV in some way??

Thanks for any help!... keep in mind I'm new to this and probably don't know all the tricks or links to websites, rules, or wording... but I'm learning.

1) Avia or Digital Video Essentials (I haven't bought either of these...yet)

2) I think the info is in the service manual. There are basically a couple of screws behind a cover that is behind the speaker grille that adjust the "keystone". I would personally call it a trapezoidal adjustment. There is one screw for the horizontal and one for vertical. There is a molded trapezoid shape next to each screw. Self explanatory once you see them. The screws adjust the angle of the front mirror in the set.

3) I haven't seen the 725 in person, but I highly doubt that it would affect the rainbows at all. For sharpness, it could soften the image a bit, but again, I am not sure on this one. The screen as far as I understand it is just a piece of plastic like the one on the 525, but it has a lower gloss finish to gut back on the reflections from the room lighting. I have a 525 series, and I have removed because the glare was too much for me to handle.

Hope this helps

I'll repeat some of what Spiff said, but here goes:

1. Avia and DV Essentials are both available at Amazon. Some have said they've found it at their local B&N or Borders too. Costs something like $30.

2. They figured out the adjustments from the service manual and from deduction based on their experience as near as I can tell. You might want to PM UMD_Terp since he fixed it on his set and seems to know a lot about the TV now.

3. As near as I can tell the only difference between the shield for the 525 and 725 is somewhat better anti-glare on the 725. Some have said that the colors look better with the screen on than off (possibly polarized or otherwise "tuned" to enhance the picture) but others have said the picture looks fine or better without the screen. Tastes and preferences I assume.

Just keep poking around this website. Tons of great info, informative members, and interesting tips. What would we do without the "internets"? :)

Thanks for the great replies... I'll do some more reading here and see how it goes. From what I can tell it just seems like a plastic shield (nothing great) so I also removed the shield due to glare. My fiancee says it maybe looks better on... I say it maybe looks better off... but we both agree that the glare can be bad at times with it on no matter how the image looks. ;)

I'll check out those DVD programs and probably pick one up so I can get the TV setup correctly.... It looks great, but could really use some adjustment for sure.

BTW - Does anyone have the 52525 service manual in PDF... or another document that I can download?... if not, where can I get the manual.

Thank you all again for the great help.

If you check out those threads referenced above you should be able to do searches within them to get specific answers. There are several posts indicating that Mits reps have said there's a trim kit coming out if you take the protective screen off so it won't look bad. Also, you can purchase the service manual online, but I can't remember the name of the website. Search for "service manual" in the owners thread.

Let us know how you're enjoying the set otherwise. I hope to get one in the next few weeks (might wait to take a look at the 825 before I decide it's too expensive). Mostly want to watch DVDs and some OTA HD, but my wife will want to watch her shows in SD. From what I've seen in the store (playing around with different feeds) it does pretty well. I can't wait because we're watching a 20 year-old set in the meantime since my Tosh Cinema Series CRT died a while ago!!!
