1. Looking for opinions, complaints, praises on this set?

2. How do HD channels look compared to SD?

3. How do SD channels look using component video output?

4. Have you been satisfied with this TV?

5. How does gaming (Xbox, PS2, PC, etc.) look on this set?

Thanks in advance,

Topaz

This is a stripped down model made exclusively for Best Buy

How do HD channels look compared to SD? You are kidding right? Ummmm....better?

SD channels are pretty poor on this model. The newer models have AMVP and stretch+ which improve SD performance greatly

Because of poor SD performance, most PS2 games look pretty poor. The games that support 480p look good. Xbox looks good at 480p, but this set does not accept 720p from the Xbox (most 720p games still look great at 480p).

This set does a great job with 480p and 1080i...but 480i is pretty poor.

FYI:

"The newer models have AMVP and stretch+ which improve SD performance greatly."

This is all 2004 XXX13 sets (or 65X13 in the case of the 65" models). I don't remember the BB number system but just in case this is the series that has the AMVP and stretch+ features.

EDIT: Topaz, Marc is the one who wrote the tweaks thread for Mitsubishi sets. You'll notice he is also an ISF tech. He is a very good unbiased source of information on these sets and displays in general (just so you don't confuse his information with some of the other low quality stuff floating around).

I can bump up to the WS65313 for about $900 more than this set. Do the AMVP and stretch+ make that much of a difference to pay $900 more? I'm sure there are a few other features not on this set, which are also on 65313; I guess I'm curious if these are worth the extra 9 bills.

Well now we are talking:

1) 65313 new from a store with warranty, return option, AMVP stretch+

2) A65 (I think) - used for 1.5 years, unknowledgable owner (i.e. possibly running 100% brightness/contrast the whole time), no warranty, no returns, maybe/maybe not for issues

It's going to depend on: how much you can afford to pay and risk, what your viewing habits are, how bad you want to make a deal. This is very hard to compare.

That being said the new 2005 sets are being released even now (65" isn't out yet to my knowedge). The prices on 2004 Mits technology are only going down over the next 4 months.

FYI, you can often swing deals at Sears or Tweeters to get the 65413s for less than Best Buy sells the 65313. You should be able to get the 65313s there for even less (not sure Tweeter sells the 313s, but Sears does).

If you still watch SDTV, go with the newer model with AMVP and stretch+. It makes a huge difference with SDTV (and PS2).
