Hi Folks,

I'm trying to put together my first HT system, and have been perusing the forum for the last few weeks. I must say I've gained much invaluable information here, and based - in no small measure - on what I've read thus far, I've narrowed down my choices for speakers to 2 companies - AV123 and Aperion audio. I haven't listened to either of these, but like their prices and in-home audition periods, especially through Aperion.

AV123 currently appears to have quite a sale, and that is what attracts me to them, though I like the looks of the Aperion better. My media room is roughly 16x18, and my receiver will be Marantz SR6003. Roughly 75/25% HT/Music split. I'm set on getting the MFW-15 over an Aperion sub, and also set on getting towers for surround, instead of bookshelves/wall-mounts etc.

My general question is this - If I match Aperion fronts/center (6T + 5C) to AV123 towers (ELT525T) and Sub (MFW-15), will there be a noticeable difference in sound? The reason I ask is that a pair of ELT525Ts can be had for a much lower price currently - this will allow me to step up from Intimus 5T (as I had originally planned, with 4T for surround) to 6T.

Or, will I be better off buying AV123 Rocket 850s (which are also currently at a discount) and matching them to the ELT525Ts? The only hang-up there is that I don't quite like the aesthetics of the Rockets (and especially the matching center from AV123.) The gloss-black piano finish of the Aperions is just stunning, and fortunately the MFW-15 is also available in the same finish.

Anyway, please feel free to chime in with any thoughts or suggestions you may have. Thank you for taking the time to read through this!

I would go for the better-sounding individual speakers that fit your budget rather than attempting to brand match. In my experience, a reasonable match can be achieved simply by compensating for differing efficiency with your receiver or preamp levels with most brands of mains with most brands of center channel or surround loudspeakers.

I'm kinda lost here. so you want to get Aperions for your front/center and use the ELT 525T as your surrounds? Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct. I would like to keep the Fronts+Center matched for sure - in this case, I'm leaning toward those being Aperions, with ELT525Ts for surround. The sub being a different brand, I've gathered, doesn't really matter; so, we can leave that out of the equation.

Surrounds are not as important for matching the front 3, unless you plan to play a lot of multichannel music like DVD-Audio or SACD. Then you'd definitely want matching speakers all around.

Sub doesn't matter. Any good brand matches.
