MKV on Panasonic Plasma

First of all, please forgive me if this question has been asked before, but I've researched the answer without success.

My problem:

All my downloaded mkv's play fine on my laptop. Then, I connect my laptop using a vga cord to my new 50inch Panasonic Plasma 1080p g10series and the audio out to my receiver using a rca cable. All the mkv's that are 3gig or above play fine at full screen for about 15 minutes, then the audio starts to lag and gets choppy. The weird part is, if I don't play them with full screen, they play fine. I've played the larger mkv files on my 32 inch lcd with no problems. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My specs:

Panasonic Plasma G10 1080p

Laptop:

HP Windows Vista 64 Premium

AMD Turion 64 x2 2.1ghz

4 gig memory

nvidia mcp67m

Software:

Windows Media Player

K lite codec pack with ffdshow and haali

Your probably pushing your laptop specs running 1080P to your Plasma.
Its probably underclocking because your laptop is overheating after playing mkvs for 15 mins.....................
So, is it possible adjust my processor to see if that is the issue? If so, how do I do it? Thanks.
Have you monitored your CPU usage during playback? That would be where I would start.

Are the mkv files H.264? You may have more luck with CoreAVC.

Most likely you should start reading up on building an HTPC.. The laptop isn't going to cut it.
I don't think you can overclock it.

My cpu usage jumps to 80-90 % at full screen and 65% using the Windows Media Player skin. The files are x264 720p. If I was to use CoreAVC, do I uninstall the klite codec pack first? Thanks.

I would like to build my own htpc if someone could give me some ideas with a budget of $800. I already have Vista.

I'd say CPU power is your problem. Once you install CoreAVC, you can go into your ffdshow and turn off H.264 support. I use GraphEdit to confirm that I'm using the correct Codec.

For $800 bucks you can build a sweet HTPC. I'd start here for a guide: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...2#post14239742

Make sure you pick a case that will fit your space requirments if you have any.

Check out the sticky at the top, guide to building a hd htpc(page 85).

this is unrelated to your problem but check your instruction manual to see if VGA is 1920x1080, I have an older Panasonic(2008 model) and the VGA port is limited to 1280x1024

get a utility like speedfan and monitor the temperature during playback...post it here and see how much is it when the lagging starts versus when you just start watching
If you have a CPU utilization of 80-90 % no wonder you have problems since less then 50% is normally preferred since if your CPU is consuming too much time your graphics card does not have enough clock time to do its job. Also unless your player program can multi thread during decode it;s and display operations with high efficiency by using both cpus concurently then 80-90% utilization of total CPU is an indication of total overload.
The max resolution on the tv is 1366x768 while my laptop's max resolution is 1280x800. I have both of them set on the same resolution which is 1280x768. I'm still confused as to why my these large mkv x264 files work fine on my 32inch lcd and not my new 50in plasma. Thanks.
Something about the bigger screen is making your CPU work harder. Could be the refresh rate maybe?
Well, as stated before, my videos run smooth the whole time and the sound starts to lag and/or starts to come in and out, after about 15 minutes. I'm still curious as to why the video and audio plays fine when it's not played in full screen mode. I appreciate everybody's response. Unfortunately, I won't be home till later tonight to try using CoreAVC to decrease my cpu load (which I may have overstated in my opening post - I think it is more like 65% in full screen mode).
I appreciate everyone's feedback. I have come to the conclusion that my laptop gets way too hot to handle h264 movies above 3 gig. My next step is to build a htpc. I want to start off with the Antec Fusion Remote Black as my case and build from a Intel / Nvidia motherboard with at least 2 tetrabytes of hard drive. I also want a solid bluray drive and hd tuner to hook up to an antenna. Though I had previously stated that I could spend around $800, I would like to spend only $500 total (less the operating system and peripheral equipment). All feedback is appreciated and I am willing to donate funds to anyone able to give me the necessary information to make my htpc usable to play any hd movie. This will be my first time building a computer and I understand some language, but I will need a lot of step by step information to build this from ground up. Thanks.

Well with your requirement of 2 TB's, a blu ray drive, and a tv tuner, I dont think $500 is gonna get all that done. $500 gives you an entry level HTPC, with no BD, and normally no tuner.

This is where you need to start, to see what you get for your money.

Your at almost $500.00 with case and Harddrive alone.

I built a system for $500.00 that would meet your needs, but as you can see I had to go cheap in a few areas, mainly the case.

Here is what I built, and it will play anything I can throw at it. No built in BD player though, but you could swap out the DVD burner for a BD player at the same cost if you don't need to burn.

I've been extreamly happy with this set up, but your options are near endless.

You could pick something like these;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131318 - $75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103678 - $60

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136317 - $90 x 2

Total $703

The 8200 is basically the AMD version of the Nvidia/Intel you mentioned. It works great for me and the combo is a minimum $60 cheaper than the Intel version.

The processor is more capable than say a 5050e but the 5050e would work and save you a little electricity.

I think all the other parts are good quality which will work well...

If you drop the tuner and blueray and a hard drive you'd end up under $500.... You'll be hard pressed to do it for $500 without really cutting corners.

Here is what I built for $591:

Though this doesn't include all the software I needed, and I store my data on a seperate server so my HDD costs were not much on this build. And I don't use the HTPC as a DVR so no tuner
