If you are running a PC with MCE in your setup, you can run a mkv through tsmuxer and spit out a .TS file (about same in size). Then use hdtvpump to play the .TS through Media Center extender on the 360. Works well and takes about 15 minutes or less per movie to remux. Tools are freeware just google them.

Another way to play the file... after you remux it to a.ts, change it to a DVR-MS file (I use VideoRedoPlus... unfortunately it's not free) and play it through Media Extender.


Those with a PS3, I noticed tsmuxer has an M2TS output option. Remuxed .mkv files to M2TS files play great streaming to the PS3 (I'm not connected to my home theater, so I haven't check the 5.1 sound yet, though)
