MKV Playback No cpu load

808 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  fcorona76
My HTPC has playback problems.

Here's my setup:

Intel i7 920

EVGA GTS250 1gb

6 gigs of ram

I'm running:

MPC-HC

CoreAVC 2.0

CUDA enabled

When I play 1080p .mkv files off my hard drive I cannot for the life of me get the video to play back smoothly. I have very little CPU load or really any load on any of my components from what I can see.

For example when I watch Planet Earth - Pole to Pole during the 10,000 bird fly by I get some skipping and when I display the video stats my frame rate jumps around from 23 - 24 frames and my clock is 99-100%. I'm not sure what the clock is or if that's even important. Ive tried the built in MPC decoders, the AVC decoders, ffdshow, and a few others with no luck.

Any help would be nice?

Thanks - Matt

Have you turned off CUDA? I dont know how well it works with CoreAVC but my experience with TMPGEnc Xpress 4 tells me that enabling CUDA on a low end (9800GT) CUDA device is a bad idea. TMPGEnc actually runs faster with CUDA decoding turned off when you have a decent processor. It still helps when you use CUDA for filtering but my Phenom II has more decoding power than what CUDA can do. I have a feeling you have a similar issue with your 250...
