I have a handful of blu-ray discs I've burned to .mkv files. Many of these contain mp4 video. I was wondering if there's a quick way of turning these .mkv files into .mp4 for playbac? It seems a bit redundant converting this mkv to mp4 using handbrake, as the video is technically already in mp4 format, right? Is there a process that doesn't require re-encoding and thus unnecessary loss of quality?

I was hoping there was something available (mac or pc, mac preferred) that would do such. Any suggestions?

MP4 is just another container like MKV (check Wiki ). A MP4 file contains video/audio streams such as H.264, MPEG-2, AC3, AAC.

First demux a MKV file into video/audio streams using eac3to , then merge streams into a MP4 using MP4Box . No re-encoding is involved (so no quality loss) except the case that the original audio stream of MKV is not supported by MP4 (e.g. FLAC), in which case audio must be re-encoded to something else (e.g. AC3, AAC). Both are command-line tools. A good UI is HdBrStreamExtractor (for eac3to) and YAMB (for MP4Box). YAMB also includes mkvextract (part of mkvmerge) so you may not need eac3to.
