In hdtvprimer the author suggests that the Channel Master 4228 antenna can be improved by replacing the feed lines with two baluns and a splitter. He comments that this mod would probably yield a higher net gain. Has anyone tried this? I was thinking of using two CM Baluns two equal length 3' cables into a CM 7992 splitter out to the CM 7777 pre-amp. Will this result in a across the board gain, or better gain at the bottom or top end of the spectrum?

It would be difficult to predict, requiring an extensive analysis. Maintaining proper phasing between all 8 bowties over the entire UHF band, maintaining a reasonable impedance match to the feedline and not creating unintentional radiating elements are the challenges and improving on the stock setup would require considerable experimentation and testing. Possibly a fun project though.
