I just started assembling my server when i got that problem, sounds like the molex are too loose so they dont stick the the case. they fit in but i just need to blow on it and it goes out... Anyone got any clue???

Wil,

As i mentioned to you prior to you build. The molex connectors on the backplanes of the 4220 are extremely "flimsy". They are connected to the backplane at the back of the molex connector, onto the backplane. The front of the molex connector then has two small white plastic "tabs" that keep the molex connector, which is otherwise loose in the front, locked into place.

As I cautioned you before, when putting the molex from the power supply into the molex on the 4220, you must be extremely careful. If you push to hard, or upwards on the molex, the white tabs will come out, and the molex connector will articulate up. Now, if you pushed to hard and actually broke the molex off, you can kiss it goodbye. Lucky for you, I have read of other users who are only using one molex connector per backplane. I am not sure how safe this is, but according to my power calculations, you should be fine.

I am not sure why Norco put two molex on each backplane, but I am guessing it was done for dual power supplies, for redundency. I just finished my build and am currently migrating data from my drives to my unraid server in the norco. So far, other than the flimsy backplanes, and cramped space between backplanes and fan assembly, I should have used molex extenders, I love the case. The fans are a little loud, but the pressure they produce is very high!!!

Good luck with your build.

i bought Y molex duplicator, is that going to work??? 1 molex to 2 molex cables
yes it will work, but you only need 1 molex per backplane connected.

My 4020 came with the fans on the motherboard side of the fan assembly, is that how all of yours are?

I saw other pics that had the fans on the backplane side....

I have my WHS w/ 8x750gb SE16 drives up and running.

5x750 are on my RR 2200 in RAID 5, 1 hotspare

1 is the OS drive and the last 750 is a storage pool drive.

I also have an external 500gb that i use for backing up the WHS database.

seems to be working well so far. I think i am going to use some 120x38mm Delta 85-120CFM fans to replace the 80mm to try and get better cooling and less high pitch whine...

we will see, it will be in a closet in a spare room soon so if it is cool enough i might leave it alone.

Wil,

The Y molex duplicators will work for sure. As I said before, there is no official documentation from Norco stating that only one molex per backplane is necessary, BUT, the power draw does not exceed its necessities.

The fans seem to work pretty well, they are keeping my drives cool, however they are pretty loud. May consider replacing with larger fans, but my server will also either go in a spare bedroom, or in the garage.

Same for me, noise wont be a problem, i will wait a bit, benchmark the HDD see if it would be great to have bigger fans.

Thank you guys BTW
