Hi

I just got the 880DX DVD player. The build is really low end. The buttons do not even line up in the middle of the holes and they are so tiny! The power button is a joke. The remote is too small and the signal is too weak. From its package and appearance, it looks like a $70 player in the store. It also does not have many functions as in my JVC DVD player.

Everytime I lost image on the projector, I have to press "video" button many times to get it back. It does not send image to my TV (composite connection) and projector (DVI or Component connection) at the same time. I thought the DX module can send image to both. My JVC DVD player does!!

The picture image is a little better than my current JVC DVD progressive player and I can not give it a WOW rating yet.

Could someone help me to set up the best configuration between 880DX and PT-L300U ?

Should I use VGA, DVI or Component ? What resolution should I use ?

What customized resolution should I use for DVI ?

What brightness/saturate/contract should I set to ?

On the projector, it also has different picture settings. I am setting them to normal with 0 on all other settings. Is it OK ?

For some reason, my VGA on my projector does not produce image at HDTV60. It detected the signal from DVD player (as seen in its option menu) but no image at all. Is the problem on the DVD player or the projector ?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, this player is not known for it's stellar build quality, ditto remote performance.

I'm not surprised your picture is not much better... you were already feediing your 1/4 HD projector 480p. Not much room for improvement.

DVI should be your best bet.

Looks like your PJ will only accept 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i... I'd try 1080i. This would make for the simplest scaling for your PJ (down 50% each way).

Use the projectors settings to calibrate your picture. use the DVD player's settings to "tweak a bit".

No clue about your VGA issues.

Personally, I wouldn't be inclined to use this player with this PJ. Can you return the player?

Hi,

I have been using the V880 and the Ptl- 300U since last year. The best picture (for me) is achieve when using the custom resolution wide 768 or 720 (don't remember) via DVI. I know 1080 should be the best but it is not available via DVI for the panasonic.... wide 768 via DVI look better to me. 1:1 mapping would also be great but again not possible with the pl-300U. I didn't dry the 1080 via PC. A good setup done with AVIA is helping off course.

Have fun!

I also think the DVI gives the most natural color. Have you tried any custom resolution on this player for DVI. Could you post your numbers ? Can we get 1:1 mapping using custom resolution?

I didn't try any custon resolutions. I tried only the ones already in the DVI options that are in setup for the Pl-300 ( wide 480, wide 600 and wide 768). Regarding 1:1 mapping, it is not possible with the Pl-300. This have been try since the first Bravo D1 and nobody had any success. This is the second weakness of the pl-300 that is bugging me. If you want to try something, you should try the RGB (PC) at 1080i if you have the DVI to RGB adapter. Personnally, I never saw any report about it.

Bummer. 1080i digitally was gonna be your best bet. ugh.

1080i component vs. 720p DVI. I have no idea which would be better.

1080i component would provide easier scaling, but with D-A, A-D conversions. Component output was poor on the older v880... poor high frequency response curve (supposedly "fixed" with a dedicated DAC on component now... I haven't seen any testing results on newer version).

720p (or whatever) DVI would keep the signal digital, but without the tidy 1/2 scaling.

No easy answer. Personally, I'd lean towards keeping it digital. But thats a stone cold guess. At any rate, if you don't get any significant improvement, again, I'd consider returning the player.

Don't get me wrong, I OWN a v880. It's great with my Z2. It just doesn't seem like a worthwhile match for your PJ.

Slightly OT.

I have the Panny 300 which worked fine with DVI out from Bravo D1 until D1 went South. I also have two 811 Dish recievers that I have never been able to get to work via DVI out through the Panny 300. Any thoughts?

I tried the DVI-VGA connector. The projector could not produce a image at 1080i mode. Interesting is that the PJ can see a 1080i signal (HDTV60 is displayed under the option menu) but no image is displayed. The image at 768p has a gray bar at the left and bottom of the image.

I wonder if this DVD player can really output 1080i with the DVI-VGA convertor.

Someone in this thread has the same issue !!

I have the Z1 which has the same 1/4 panels as the Pannie 300 (960 x 540)

and have been using the Momitsu V880 for some time now using the DVI output to send an anolog signal to the Z1's VGA imput. (no DVI on the Z1) Really a great picture with no motion artifacts or any problems. Here are the settings in the custom settings I have been using. I can't guarantee that these will work with the 300 though, only the Z1.

34020/33986Hz, 6000/5994Hz

0960, 0540

1184, 0072

0112, 0040

0567, 0005

0013, 0009

0001, 0001

I only use 1080i or the custom settings above. I can tell the difference between 1080i and the custom settings, not a lot, but a little. When I used the VGA input, only these two seemed to work properly. At the other imputs there was problems with black bars at the ends, cropping etc, again, this is only when using the computer imput (VGA) not with the video imput (component)

This setting works on my projector too. It is now able to display image at 1080i mode using DVI-VGA connector.

However. now I have black bars on for edge. It is not using all the pixels !

Is there any 300U owner using VGA connection with DVD-880 ? Please post your setting.

Thanks

Same thing happened to me. I thought that maybe it was now displaying the actual total pixels, so I adjusted my screen on either side with my movable screen borders. (DIY screen) The height was ok. Maybe if you increased the width number in the custom settings it would widen it. My actual image size is 36 inches by 64 inches (I have a small room!)
