After attempting to flash the latest firmware update, I now have a problem.

I loaded the firmware into the player and all seemed fine. Got all the way to the screen that says "update successfully done". The instructions say to power off at this point. I could not turn the player off with the power switch, so I pulled the plug.

Now what happens when I turn the player back on is I only get a picture momentarily,, then nothing.

The player will load and play a dvd, but will not display an image via any output.

The good news is I tried flashing the 03/09 firmware and when the flash reaches the updating firmware screen, I do get a picture so I can navigate the firmware update at this point. Hopefully If I have a problem in the update disc, and I,m sure I do. This can be corrected with the proper firmware disc.

Where I think the problem may be is when I look in the file folders and files of both firmware disc, I see the four file folders, and the six other files. However three of the four file folders (DEV FONT PROC) are empty folders.

Can anyone confirm that these file folders indeed should have files in them?

I used burnatonce. What am I doing wrong?

Hate to admit it but I am all thumbs with a computer. Please be Kind.

Thanks in advance.

The file folders you mention should be empty. I think your firware update

went ok. It may be a problem with your remote not being able to move

from one output setting to another. I would suggest that you unplug the

Motitsu for about 6 hours and when you replug it back in try to change

the settings to the output you are using with the remote. I would also

check the batteries and connection in the remote.

What is happening is that the unit is not accepting the information from the

remote. I had the same problem and I left my unit off overnight. I have

not had the problem again.

Thanks for the response Westley. So those files are supposed to be empty. Now I'm worried.

See trouble is, when the player is turned back on after update. I only get the blue dvd screen to display for about a second. The player is still connected via composite like it was to do the flash. I tried connecting s-video, and component to no avail. Again I tried playing a dvd to see if it would display an image. DVD loads and plays, but still no image no mater what output I use.

I just flashed both the March, and then the May firmware again. Same result. Any chance this is defaulting to DVI instead of video? Shoud not be so.

Also, the firmware instructions state:

"After some time, the tv screen shows the Momitsu Firmware Update screen. Read the on screen instructions on the TV and press play.

So far so good. When I press play the player begins updating firmware.

However the next line in the instructions state:

"Press the play button AGAIN when PROMPTED by the on screen display."

However I do not get a prompt to press play again. Instead the firmware continues to load until the on screen display says update successful, and the lcd window says done.

Is this common?

Darn. Looks like it did default to dvi!!

Did the old setup up down over arrow sequence and got a menu. Now I'm not the brightest bulb in the room, but you'd think this would be either unnecessary, or at least be in the update instructions.

I don't recall reading that this is needed to get a menu. At least the next poor AVS member that follows the v880 threads will have a heads up.

Don, I would suggest that you unplug the V880 overnight and try to

change the settings in the morning. I did this when I first got my unit

and I tried to flash the firmware. My remote would not work until it was

unplugged for many hours. I think there is some kind of buffer problem

with the Momitsu. I think you may have hit on something in that it may

be defaulting to DVI and because of the buffer problem you can not use

the remote to make any changes until the buffer is cleared.

I though that my V880 was ruined after I first updated the firmware and

the next morning everything worked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help Westley.

Every is fine now. It may have defaulted to dvi, however to get a menu where I could enable dvi, I had to do the video cycle reset by hitting: setup v>>vvvvvv enter.

The strange thing is before doing this, I tried composite, component, and s-video outputs. There was no image from any output. When I did finally get to the menu, everything worked fine. Set to [email protected], connected back to the projector, all back to normal.

Great news D. I just played Monster this afternoon on my Momitsu. Each

time I run a good DVD I realize how great the picture is from the V880.

Until real HD comes out on DVD'S I feel that even with it quirks the Momitsu displays the best picture at this time. I have found nothing to compare to

it. If anyone really wants to see how good the Momitsu is try to get a copy of Winged Migration it is awsome.
