Cost no object, the best sub that you can get is one that meets all your specifications - both performance & appearance. If you send an email to Funk Audio with your ideas, they can design & finish a custom sub however you like. One of my FA subs has four 18" drivers, a 9600 W. peak amp, built-in DSP, and a Bubinga hardwood finish. It provides all the SPL I can handle and it's flat to single digits. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, I'm sure that Funk Audio would be happy to design something that's even more outlandish. Your imagination & pocketbook are the only limitations...

Back when I was considering a JTR Orbit Shift sub I started talking with Nathan and he was offering to make me a pretty insane folded horn designed sub with dual 15's. I'm convinced he can build just about anything someone can dream up, and like you said the only limit is your wallet!.....LOL

I don't know the best commercial money no object sub, as their are a lot of flagship subwoofers . But for me these are the subs that all share being near the top (money a factor or not) or for their design.

So just some off the top of my head.

In no real order

JTR

PSA

Funk (their top sub was already mentioned but they also have other good subs too)

Funk Audio 21.0

Seaton Sound

SubMersive HP+ Master / Slave combo ( I know they have other designs but their either in the works or not in production)

Paradigm

Sub 2

I'll think of more but those are some that people will know about...

Without doubt the Transmission Audio's Ultimate with 4 dipole subwoofers with 10 15-inch drivers each (total of 40 15-inch drivers). This is part of their Ultimate speaker system one can order for $2,000,000 (perhaps if one orders online, you can save the sales tax). This is suppose to reach 146 dB SPL from their 15,500 watt rms amplifiers. http://www.transmissionaudio.com/images/Transmission_Audio_ULTIMATE.pdf

Yeah, maybe if people could buy them. I only know of one person that actually owns one.
Yes, understood that it could be difficult if not impossible depending on a few things....but it is somewhat commercially available, its got a website and everything! :)

Then there's the very expensive Magico Q subs but they are more expensive than impressive.

If you have the suitable house there's the good ol' rotary TRW 17.

To be fair that system is largely theoretical. I doubt they have ever made one.

Or four stacks of four of the DXD-12012

That really is just a bunch of subs, I don't think it counts. You could do the same to any of the subs mentioned.
