Monitor Audio GS 10's, 20's and GSLCR....Anyone have opinions on these?

Hello All:

My first post so be lenient on any faux paus I make.

I found a dealer with whom I can demo some MA GS20's 10's and the LCR from their new Gold Signature Line

I'd like to know if anyone has heard this new line yet and what they thought.

I have a slight dilema in that if I get the GS20's they'll only be about 5.5 feet apart. However, if I get the GS10's as left/right and the GSLCR for the CC, the distance between left and right will be more in line with what is normal (8-9 feet apart).

With all that in mind, I've always believed floor standing speakers would sound much better than any bookshelf speaker (GS10's)

So, can anyone give some opinion on this line

I appreciate any feedback

Pat

Follow your heart and you can't go wrong with music.

Hi Pat,

I was in an very similar situation as you, with the same placement issues. I own the GR10 and the GR Center, but the advice is the same. I made the choice to go with the GR10's that are properly placed vs floorstanders that are too close together. To me it sounded much better. Here is the thing though...you don't mention a sub. I cross over my GR10's to a good sub. If I didn't have a sub, I would have gone with the closer together towers.

Greg
I personally have 2 gr60's, 4 gr10's, and the glcr in my system. Obviously I use the 60's for the fronts, and the 10's for the surrounds.

I will say there is no comparision whatsoever between the 60's and the 10's when it comes to the overall soundstage and range. The 10's sound amazing, and could work as the mains if the budget hadn't allowed for the 60's.

It is just as important to remember that placement is crucial for proper soundstage. There is no way I would even consider trying to run my 60's only 5-6 feet apart. That would be just plain stupid, and would ruin the entire soundstage. If that is your only option, then go with the 10's and a well matched sub.

Hi Pat,

My $.02. I have an all MA Gold setup. Mains GR60's, Rears GR20's and I am using a pair of GR10 as the Center Channel (great speakers by the way and word is the GS's are even better). The 5' spacing for the the GS20's in not enough. The 10's will give you everything the 20's will, less some bass. If you suplement the bass with either the Rel or Velo SPL you asked about over on the Sub Thread you will be fine. Should be a great sounding system.
