Monolith 15 vs pb 4000

9715 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Liquid$team
I was checking out reviews on both of these subwoofers. The monolith tends to do way better than the pb 4000 or pb 16 Ultra from 16hz to 12.5 hz. I was curious if someone has heard the monolith 15, as its quite a bit cheaper than the pb 4000. I have dual pb 2000’s now and the room is 12’ x 20’ with 8 foot ceilings. It’s open to the back until I finish it. I use the system predominantly for movies, but do some music listening too. Thanks and I look forward to your responses.

If you're referencing the CEA-2010 scores.

* first, and most importantly, realize the limitations of CEA-2010 and how those scores are going to correlate to our subjective impressions of each product with actual source material(movies).

* The 16u beats the mono15 by 3.9dB at 16hz. The mono15 wins 9.5dB at 12.5hz.

So when do those line cross exactly? 14hz? 15hz? Say 14.5hz?

You're literally looking at 12.5hz to 14.5hz(?) of operating bandwidth..:)

Now, look at the FR of the mono15 at 12.5hz versus nominal. Down what...15dB?(and dropping around 30dB/octave?). Point being the 12.5hz isn't relevant anyway as the FR is so far down from nominal(and dropping so rapidly) that typical room gain isn't going to get you much.

Interpreting cea-2010 and understand what is and what isn't relevant when discussing the correlation to movie reproduction is one of the most misunderstood topics on the interweb.

Tom. Thank you for putting those results into perspective. That being said, it’s still going to be a tough decision either way. Because I’m going to go dual with whatever I get. Price and customer service are paramount, so therein lies the quandary.

Imo I would be looking at the Monolith 15 / PSA V1811 / Rythmik FV15HP. They all have their strengths you just need to prioritize.

The pb4000 is overpriced imo

I reviewed the Monolith 15" in my HT for about a month. It is an excellent sub. The Monolith 15" hit 105dB @ 11Hz and almost 113dB @ 14.5Hz in my 22' x 14' x 7.5' family room, which is larger than yours.

I have dual Mono 15’s for just under 2 years now and they have been flawless. You really need to hear them they have low distortion and play super clean without any chuffing. I am hoping to add two more just because.

If service matters to you, I only see the owner of one company posting on this thread helping out . There are quite a few exciting products that have just been released and about to be available for pre-order on the PSA thread. Just food for thought, the mono's from everything I have read are great for the money.

Another +1, I've had my dual M15's since February, couldn't be happier.

I have dual V1811's ..... turned way down as they slam my little room. Built like tanks and you would need a metal tool to scratch them.... truck bedliner type outer coating if scratches are an issue to you.
