monster component cable or vga?
im looking to upgrade to a vga cable but the monster component cables are looking nice,now will the vga cable upscale dvds to 720p?which do yo ureccomend for my tv?

so the spring update have improved the color on vga right
The 360 is a god awful upconverting DVD player, my advice is don't bother with either. VGA has been giving alot of people issues even with the spring update and Monster cables are overpriced crap. And are you guys positive the 360 can upscale via VGA? That would be surprising since very few upconverting DVD players allow upconversion of protected DVD's over an analog connection and I can't see the 360 being any different, not that it would matter since it sucks at upscaling anyway.

Care to explain what? I said stay away from the VGA cables and all things Monster cables, how is that contradicting?

i have the 360 on VGA at 1080p, and an Oppo 981HD, and other than my self, my friends or family (roughly 20 ppl compared) cant tell the difference in which upscales better.
the 360 is above average, which means it'll satisfy the majority.

exactly! I knew someone else would see it. I also think the 360 does a good job at upscaling BTW.
VGA doesn't fall under the CSS encryption rules because it considered a computer connection. So you can upscale over VGA.

me too, like i said, i have the oppo and the 360 on vga, i wish i wouldnt have bought the oppo. theres no doubt in my mind it's better, but it's not 280 (230? now) dollars better.

ok so i need a final answer here the 360 will upconvert dvds to 720p via vga right
like i said, different TV's have different quality/issues with VGA... it all depends on your TV, a good TV will handle VGA well, and should give you a great picture. some inferior tv's (mostly big brands) have inferior vga inputs.
i'm sure in the LCD Display section (where you should have looked first) there is a thread that includes your display, i'm also sure that plenty of users are 360 owners, and at least a handful have tried VGA and will chime in on their results.

yes, as stated in every VGA thread, VGA will upscale DVD up to 1080p if your TV supports the resolution you're asking for.
well since they use different scaling chips, it wouldnt be smart to assume that they both upscale at the same quality without benchmark testing information (which i havent seen yet)
i mean, i dont see how someone can say it sucks. if you were expecting hddvd quality, then yea, the upscaling sucks, but so does the upscaling in the Oppo which is one of the best out there. upscaling in general does suck, but you have to compare apples to apples, and the 360 scaler isnt horrible.

Well I have SONY 46XBR3 LCD connected to my 360 via VGA. Personally I can't tell the difference between my 360's and my Oppo's upconversion of DVDs. Both of them look stunning.
Monster VGA cables and MS VGA cables will yield same results.

Just buy the cables from a store like CC or BB where you can return them if you don't like them.
Please let me know the results Commander as I have the exact same model TV as you and is also on the brink of buying the MS VGA cable.
