Monster HTS3500 or 1600?

443 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Chu Gai
I've been convinced that I need a surge protector & line conditioner. The 3500 just dropped price to $150, while the 1600 is about $300. Pros / copns of either, which would you choose?

If you're concerned about bona fide surge protection, then if you own your own home, a whole-house approach is highly recommended. Certainly a homeowner has a variety of electronic devices that would benefit from such an approach.
Chu Gai's point is very accurate. But, I have the 3500MkII and it has a couple other features you might want to consider. My pre-amp has a 12v trigger but my amp does not. The Monster 3500 also has this. I can use the 12v trigger between the pre-amp and the 3500 to enable my pre-amp's remote to control the amp indirectly via the power center.

Also, the power center has switched and unswitched and delayed switched outlets. That's convenient.

Finally, I noticed a slight hum coming from my subwoofer when I plugged it into the wall outlet. I think it was a ground loop hum, probably from my cable TV line. I plugged it into the Monster 3500 and it went away. It wasn't a loud hum but it was there and the Monster solved the problem.

The Monster also provides surge protection for your antenna and cable lines which a whole-house surge protector will not.

I got mine from Beach Audio (they're on the 'Net) for $178 including shipping. The rebate will reduce to $128. Amazon has it and I am sure there are others. Monster stuff is horribly overpriced but if you can get a good closeout like this then I recommend going for it. DON'T buy used!

Depends on what you buy. All my incoming lines - cable, A/C, phones go through that first. I've got no problem with the rest of your comments.
