Moome HDMI card for G90? Details please!

1560 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Person99
I see all these references to these Moome cards for different CRT projectors. What I've never been able to put together is...

1) How and where do you get them?

2) Who is Moome and are they a legit item?

3) For the G90, what would I want to get in order to play back Blu-Ray at 1080p?

4) I'm also planning on getting a VP, probably the Lumagen HDQ. Can I run the HDMI out of a Blu-Ray player into the HDQ, and then HDMI out of the HDQ to the Moome HDMI input?

5) I've seen some references to an HDMI card with some kind of gamma correction. What is this and why is it needed? ALSO, would it be needed if running through a VP like the HDQ that has extensive gamma control?

6) Are these reliable and time tested?

Thank you for any info and help!

Cheers.............Scott W.

1. http://221.169.10.62/

2. Moome is a guy in China (?)

3. http://221.169.10.62/sony_hd.htm

4. I would assume you can use it as a pass through, but I don't know. I don't have a VP

5. The gamma card is just the regular HDMI card with a gamma circuit. It adds 75$ to the price, but Cliff and other people swear by it. What it does is it lets you keep the deep blacks, but you also get good shadow detail as well. Without gamma correction, you get deep blacks or good shadow detail, but not both. Gamma correction allows for both.

6. Sort of...they often take a while to get from moome and there are occasional problems (mostly with HDCP handshakes), but Moome is pretty good about sending out updated chips that fix issues.

Search the FS section for "moome" and read some of the threads...especially the sony one.

1) This is the thread about them over in the for sale forum:

You can also email him directly at: [email protected]

Generally people send payment in advance, and cards are shipped out in batches when they are available.

2) Moome is a fellow in Taiwan. The devices are legit, have passed hdmi/hdcp compliance testing and do work well in application. I use mine with the PS3 and Xbox Elite.

3) For 1080p Blu-Ray on the G90 you need an input board (either the moome card or JohnHWman's card), a cable and a HDMI Blu-Ray player. I use my PS3 for 1080p Blu-ray on my G90 and it works well with both the moome card an Johns card.

4) I dont have personal experience. I would say that it should work, but there have also been threads from people frustrated that their chained hdmi set of devices and processors do not work. I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a simple hdmi switch and will see if that works to connect my PS3 and Xbox.

5) The gamma correction is an option. I like it with my Xbox and PS3 since they dont give me any image adjustments. If you are running from a HTPC or sending the signals through a rpcoessor that provides gamma correction you may not need it.

6) There have been issues with new devices not hand shaking properly. But moome is good about sending out updated edid chips and staying on top of keeping them working. I've never heard of a card failing.

This is great news as the lack of adjustable gamma was the only complaint I had about this card when I saw it in a G70.

Is there going to be an upgrade option for those with non-adjustable gamma cards?
