Some recent threads mentioned JVC's 2048X3840-pixel D-ILA hardware used for recent SIGGRAPH demonstrations. For more details and a discussion of the cinema standards for applying such resolutions, see Jim Mendrala's article (last one) in this Tech Notes issue. -- John

Read teh part on resolution not being resolution, but actually being CONTRAST. CONTRAST being the deciding component of detail. This is why i beat my CRT chassis with a gigantic technological baseball bat, utill it's linear contrast range was way, way beyond the Stock model. Then, I run it at 1920x1200, and use the iDCT of the 10-bit ATI card to scale up the DVD's..and get a phenomenal image.

KBK,

Yes, but 1920x1200 isn't even close to 2048x3840.

I don't see how the rest of your comment applies, as the referenced article didn't have anything to do with contrast.

Seing that heavily compressed and color decimated ATSC 1080i HD can (sometimes) look so good on a meager 1365x1024 D-ILA, I just can't stop drooling at the prospect of a 2Kp image.
