From the ones available in the US market, I agree, the Pioneer 640 would be the best match for my needs, with the paranoid Polaroid as #2.

From the ones available worldwide, and if price was not an issue, I would want one of those new shiny dual-tuner SD/HD ones available in Japan :) I am accepting early Xmas presents, so please feel free to send me a few ;-)

I'm not so picky. A Pio 640 would be fine. Used, even. I'm even willing to wait for 12/25.....

I made my choice. I now have 3 Pioneer 640H-S dvd recorders.

One is a year old and the other 2 were picked up as demo units and the last one in stock from 2 different retail brick and morter chain outlets late April/early May.

Would love to have a Panasonic DMR-E500HS with the 400 GB HDD
but not for $1,000 that a member here just sold his for on ebay

It would be nice if it had the newer & better Panny "LP" mode but with that HDD I could live without it

Hi Bill1313, yes the LP mode is wonderful! Other than sports and a few high-speed "busy" scenes in "Lost", I haven't really seen any issues with LP for regular TV watching which is a great way to cut dvd consumption in half (for me) :) Now if i had a big digital TV that could be a different story, but I don't

Since the Polaroid still seems to be available, would you recommend it other than for the remote? I could live with that, or use my Harmony.

Thanks.
Yes- It might even be worth it to buy the Polaroid 80 GB(NOT The 160 GB) online from Walmart-I think they have them- and get the cheap extended warranty. If you can get extended warranty this unit produces a gorgeous burn to disc probably due to the LSI chip. I tested it(Polaroid) against Pios for video quality and it essentially equaled. Plus it's got component inputs.

Thanks HG!

Don't forget -I am talking about the 80 GB first Polaroid- NOT the new 160 GB at WM.

Can someone please help me? I am not so technosavvy and need help with recording onto DVD through my Comcast DVR and Polaroid recorder. I am sorry also, but I don't understand all of the abbreviations either, not totally dumb, but you would not understand the abbreviations that I use at my job either probably. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
