However, what are your votes for the top sounding Wii games. In specific which provide the best use of Dolby Pro Logic II. On my system I'm not getting a whole lot of separation and I'd like a game to test.

Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4 Wii are the two that immediately come to mind. Dead Space Extraction is also pretty good.

I have 3 dolby pro logic II settings on my receiver (Panasonic SA200), Movie, Music, and Panorama. Not knowing which ones to use.


Is it normal for music to ALL to mostly come out of the center channel, ie Donkey Kong Country Returns and Animal Crossing.


edit: read your post about movie mode. Movie mode puts more information into the center channel (noteably music) than the other modes, ie Donkey Kong Country Returns and Animal Crossing Wii. I suppose this is normal.


Seems there is 0 advantage to having Dolby Pro Logic IIz for the Wii. The Wii is the only Pro Logic device I have in my setup.

IIz can be layered on to any multichannel source, whether it's matrixed Pro Logic II, or discrete Dolby Digital or dts. Whether it adds anything or sounds good to you is another story all together. As you move passed a quality set of 5.1 speakers, and a good 5.1 source to feed to them, the world of audio is a game of rapidly diminishing returns real quick.

It is if the music is almost single-channel in nature. This should leave you with almost exclusively effects coming out of your other speakers.

Just to add - I have found w/ the recent release of Rock Band 3 on Wii, that the audio sounds somewhat better than past RB/GH titles, esp if in any PLII mode (Music being preferrable).


That said - I tend to run RB in 2 channel stereo these days anyway - regardless of how cool it may be to have the audience coming thru the surrounds, the MUSIC (you know - the main element to RB) still sounds the most full when coming thru in it's intended 2 speaker setup.

However I tried to calibrate my listening position with a Radio Shack SPL last night, which brought the center channel way down compared to left and right. This evened things out quite a bit....it feels more even across the front...music wise. I don't have an automatic configuration receiver though I might get one soon, as that one feature is drool worthy. The backs I brought up as far as I could, but couldn't get them to reach the fronts in volume level as I maxed out my offset. Can't lower front Left/Right. 2cents.

James hit the best games for sure, DS:E and MP:3 are pretty amazing considering the Wii's audio setup. My $0.02- a few weeks ago I had my audio truly setup and completely reconfigured, and now my center channel is way down, lower than default by probably 30-40%. I've noticed a huge difference in the games that use surround, and movies/TV seem to be equally as well balanced and eq'd.


Guitar Hero is the odd exception- GH:WT, Band Hero and GH5 all sound like crap unless I switch the receiver settings... Even after setting up the in-game faders. I haven't tried setting the Wii to stereo for those games, mostly because even if it would help I'm certain I'd forget to turn it back after I finished... and be quite confused for months when I can't figure out why my sounds sucks again...

Just looked at my Wii games, and add Mario Galaxy and Wind Waker (gamecube), both also have great surround sound.

Automatic room correction and level calibration is the most important thing to happen in home audio since the shift from 2.0 to 5.1. Seriously, the feature is amazing and can be found in very reasonably priced receivers these days. Yamaha and Pioneer would be the two brands that I would be looking at first if I were to be shopping for a new receiver today.

I always found the GH/RB games sounded best in 2 ch stereo. W/ RB3, the Wii itself is still in "surround" mode, but I set the receiver to 2 ch.
