After 5 weeks of arguement they have finally agreed to a credit/replacement. Think I'll go for an AE300 and pay the difference. I'm afraid I've lost confidence in the prospects of AE100's having long lives
I hope they keep on melting so that I can trade in under warranty for the new Panny models every year!! AE100-AE300-AE400!! .
In all seriousness though for every AE100 owners sake, I hope that it was the huge amount of hours that I put on it in such a short space of time that melted it. Rather than 'The optics melt after 3000 hours' and a Panasonic response of "It took you 2 years to rack up 3000 hrs Sir before your optics melted but I'm afraid the warranty is only for a year. Sorry"
I guess the Z1 is looking better everyday...except for the dust blobs...
My advice is if you like what you've read about the z1 and think it would be a good choice then don't let the thought of potential dust blobs hold you back.
A) they are easy to clean
B) they aren't just a Z1 issue although I do have to say the air filter in the z1 is somewhat flimsy
C) there is no guarantee that you'll get any in the first place
