Most user friendly HDTV

Looking at getting my elderly father (and somewhat forgetful) a plasma or DLP HDTV for christmas. I had been eyeing the Samsung DLP's for a while for myself but have not played with one to see how user friendly it was. Im referring to the on screen menus and remote. The initial hookup i would handle.

Im looking at around a 42" or maybe slightly bigger set and was thinking around $1500 to $2500.

Im not opposed to going Plasma and any recommendations are welcomed.

My sister had some concerns regarding the power requirements and i didnt think that the DLP's or Plasmas would be that much more than his current 27" CRT. Please correct me if im wrong. The house is very old with old wiring and no outlets with a ground connector.

I wanted to add that the majority of the programs he watches are all in 4:3 format. Although i may check into comcasts lineup of HD programming and see if it would be worth subscribing to.

Thanks

DLP's 1.5x more +, Plasmas 3x more +. Except for maybe Plasmas (and Computers), most consumer products don't have grounded plugs.

As far as the user friendly, that's a crap shoot.
Thanks for the info. Computer Power Supplies do have a grounded cord just for the record.

Can anyone comment on if there particular brand of TV seems to have a pretty intuitive menu structure and well organized layout on the remote? I know this is somewhat individual taste but id like to see what others think.

I guess its time to hit the stores and read through the forum for some education.

If the majority of his viewing is going to be 4:3 is Plasma or DLP better for that or is that dependant on the manufacturer and the TV?
Plasma would be a bad choice due to the higher power draw (and 3-pronged plugs) and risk of burn-in with 4:3 material. There is no risk of burn-in with RP DLP or RP LCD. DLPs are very user friendly, although both DLP and LCD will require a new bulb about 3 years or so, depending on the amount of use (every 6000-8000 hours).
Bill,

I was leaning towards a Plasma after reading through the forums and something i read about DLP vs Plasma. I thought i read that 4:3 viewing on Plasma's exhibited a less grainy picture than DLP's. Anyone care to comment on that?
I would not recommend a Samsung DLP due to the small buttons on the remote and hidden buttons under the flip panel. Not the easiest to see or use. Plasma will not have any better PQ on standard cable than anything else, plus the potential to have some burn in issues. Maybe a small LCD RP like the Sony or Mits, they will generally be brighter and the remotes may be easier to use.
