Hey I have a question about motion interpolation (soap-opera effect), specifically if refresh rate would have any impact on smoothness at low fps content.

I am getting a new TV and will be hooking up to computer using 4K resolution and watching 24, 30, and 60 FPS content (movies/netflix) no gaming at all. Most TVs refresh rate at 4K is 60Hz but the Samsung Q90 is 4k120Hz. I like the soap-opera effect even with 24/30 FPS shows. While watching 4k 24 or 30fps movies would there be any difference in smoothness using the Q90 at 120Hz vs another TV just doing 4k60Hz?

Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in but yes there is a difference. Q9 is at an upper tier when it comes to taking 60hz and dialing it into its native 120. Be wary though, some 120hz native panels have drive engines that won't upconvert that 60hz to 120. Rtings has an informative article on it.

P.S. Most tv junkies dislike that Soap Opera effect, but to each his own.
