Motorola 6412 III - Dolby ProLogic Question

462 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  daking
I recently switched from a 6200 to 6412 Phase III. I notice that all channels now seem to send out a dolby digital signal -- i.e. no prologic. On the 6200 non digital/non HD local channels for example (cbs, channel 5) would send a dolby prologic signal so my receiver would send it out to all speakers. The 6412 sends a dolby digital 2.0 signal and therefore I don't get any sounds from my surround speakers. Has anybody else noticed this? Is there anyway to make it behave like the 6200?

Note:

Dolby Digital 5.1 works fine for digital/HD channels.

Dolby 2.0 is the same as left + right audio. If you have your receiver set right, it should kick on the ProLogic circuity.

In the setup/audio portion of the 6412 menu system, you can ajust for mono/stereo/advanced settings. Play with these to give more of less analog output compression and surround effect.
Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear about the symptoms. The reciever is a Kenwood VR-407, being fed coax-input, and set to "auto" digital input. The 6412 now always sets my receiver to Dolby Digital mode - even though its only a stereo transmission (L + R audio out). On the 6200, with no other changes, the ProLogic mode was getting set and the sound would be sent to all speakers.

Are you saying that adjusting the setup/audio options will change this behavior on the 6412? I will try this again at home, but I could swear I did this and it didn't seem to change anything.
If you have a settings button on your 6412 remote just to the left of the left arrow key go to advanced settings/digital/ and you can change the AC3 to PCM

I don't have a "settings" button. I do have a "setup" button, but its on the top right corner.

Is that what you meant?
No, your remote is totally different than mine which is from Cox and which uses the Passport Echo user interface. You need to contact Comcast to find out how to make the change with your system.

I see. Thanks! :)
I've got the same issue. I mostly get stereo (L + R channel) and my Denon 1803 keeps switching between different modes when in commercials, fast-forwarding any recordings, etc... Maybe it's supposed to be this way. Previously had a DCT2000 box which output to all speakers.
