Motorola 6416 Recording Issues

Hello all,

A newbie to this forum and NOT real knowledgeable about this technology so please bear with me if I seem ignorant (I was directed to search this topic by a verizon fios service tech yesterday). I am in the Philadelphia, PA region and recently in the last few days verizon fios eveidently did a software upgrade? and it updated our "On Screen Guide" to a new viewing format. My question is (and the verizon tech had not heard of this issue before) when the upgrade was done, some of the movies we had recorded over the past few months and are still on the DVR, the title was still present. However when we went to view "The Time Machine" (Rod Taylor)the movie was gone, disappeared and in its' place was another movie we had recorded (The Shape of Things To Come)...or something like that. That movie title which took the place of the time machine was listed nowhere! Also present, were movies we had never recorded with titles " Andy Hardy...." and the like. Also was listed "Manual Recording" of something I do not recall recording. What we had recorded was mislabled under these other existing titles. The verizon support center had me reset the router button (we are on verizon phone/internet/tv here) power the unit off/on......but it still did not show correct titles for what we had previously recorded. The result was that with the upgrade of the 6416 DVR, the On Screen Guide and evidently other components of the system, we unfortunately have suffered a previously unknown glitch. With the reset that I did here and that verizon did to my unit while I was on the phone with them, they say all should be ok but basically that is from this point forward. Any recordings I have are still mis-titled and I would need to erase those and start from scratch again. Anyone heard of this before? I would also like to be able to use the USB connections to download movies from the DVR to a external hd, or someother medium for my own viewing pleasure..Any instructions I could receive on these two topics would be greatly appreciated!

The official AVS forum thread for the Verizon DVR is Verizon FiOS QIP6416 DVR - Master Topic! . DSLR also has some useful threads, including IMG Bugs and missing features Ver 2.0 .

I have not heard of that particular problem, but I don't read every post in the above threads. You might ask your question in the linked thread(s) above, but I doubt there is anything you can do to fix it for past recordings.

As the rep said, future recordings should be fine.

This you can't do. The Motorola DVRs do not support internal or external drive upgrades. Nor do they allow you to download recordings to your computer. The USB ports are not active.

If you want those storage expansion, or the ability to download your recordings, you'll need to spend $200-$250 to upgrade to the TivoHD DVR for FiOS. This replaces the Verizon DVR. On mine, I've had a 1TB hard drive for 144+ HD hours storage. Picture of my recorded list:

You can also download recordings directly to your PC or Mac over your wireless network using any web browser, as seen here .
