Motorola DCT 6412 III from RCN and SATA connection

Quick question (I hope!)

Does anyone else have the Morotal 6412 III from RCN? I just got it this weekend and was pumped that accourding to the manual, I can plug in an external SATA drive for additional storage space. However, I then noticed the manual says that the function may or may not be available. I tried calling RCN, but even their technical people seemed dumbfounded by the question.

So, I figured I'd check on here and see if anyone had the same unit and knew the answer.

Thanks!

This option is not currently available for ANY DCT series boxes. The only STB with functional SATA ports are the SA8300 series, which, if you have a Motorola box, IS NOT compatible with your cable system.
Lovely! Thanks. It pisses me off that the manufacturers go through adding all these cool useable features, but either the cable company shuts it down, or the software just isn't there. I had a DirectTivo for several years that had completely worthless USB ports on it.

Yeah, but the HD TiVo was INCREDIBLY hackable by Motorola and SA STB standards. You can network and even upgrade the HDD of that thing...
True, too bad it can't be hacked to make it useful for cable! Oh well, only a few more months until series 3 comes out.
