Checking the HDTV compatibility link for large LCD info and came across Motorola's entry into this game.

see http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/...102_23,00.html

I was surprised for three reasons:

1) That Motorola was getting into this business;

2) The 27-32" panels were identified as having 1366 x 768 resolution, which is unlike any others in this range (so who is making them ?);

3) That they could, with a straight face, announce that they were making both 46" AND 47" panels (haven't they lost enough money already ??).

Availability is in the May to July 2004 time frame, with the 1920 x 1080 (46" - 47") panels due in July, others in May.

What's up ??

Proview is making the LCD's and Plasmas for Motorola under a newly created subsidiary, Moxell. Moto stuff looked OK at the CES and the price points are pretty decent. Maybe, they will get it right this time. Hopefully, no Quasar this time around!

I bought a Proview 17" LCD TV for the office because it was dirt cheap and we are only using it for CNN. But it is a real stinker of a product. Pretty awful picture, the remote range extends to about 1 foot away, laughable speakers and very strange menus. Basically a very cheap refit of a computer monitor into a TV.

What's next, Philco and Admiral branded plasma?
