I'm using a Logitech COrdless Mouseman Optical, and can't get the mouse wheel to function on a HTPC with XP SP1 through a KVM switch.

I have four HTPC's atached to the Belkin Omniview Pro KVM- 3 Win98SE and one XP SP1, with the mouse on the PS2 ports.

The scroll wheel works fine on all three WIn98SE boxes, but will not install or work with scrolling- but the wheel button functons!?

I've removed the mouse in the Device Mangler- err, Manager ;) , several times, to no avail.

I just tried plugging it into the USB port, and it works directly plugged into the XP HTPC. Just not through the KVM.

Any thoughts?

Does your KVM support USB? It seems like your KVM must be filtering out the info on the PS/2 port, probably because it doesn't support the range of signal or the line being used (not that I really know anything about the PS/2 port signals). I doubt it could easily do this with USB unless it wanted to (which would seem odd). My suggestion is just to switch to a USB KVM or to hunt for another KVM that does the PS/2 thing correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The odd thing is that the win98SE boxes have no problem with the wheel through the same KVM!

It appears to be an XP incompatibility. I guess the XP mouse driver and/or port polling doesn't like the KVM in the path...
