Move up from Klipsch RF-42ii's?; Small tower recs

Have had my Klipsch RF42ii fronts for about the last 8 years and am thinking about upgrading to something possibly a step up and maybe a little bigger. Always had a sub with them and they do well enough but I am wondering if I am missing something that I can make up for with an upgrade- budget is $1,000 or less for a new front pair. For my HT (5.1) vs 2.1. I am about 60/40. Music is CD’s, streaming, and the occasional cassette. Music is equally important as HT. I recently upgraded the sub to a SVS SB1000 pro and the center to the Infinity R262. Surrounds are Klipsch Synergy B-2 books. Driving them with an Onkyo rz830 amp. I want detail at low listening levels and the ability to sustain at higher volumes if needed. My Klipsh’s do not fatigue me though there are moments when the highs may be shrill or it is poor sources being fed to them. I have been quite impressed with how “big” they can sound for HT given their small size (the sub does help a bunch. I am aware of their propensity for “brightness” but my older ears and poor man’s audiophile appreciation are not well trained to really say whether or not this bothers me a great deal as I do not notice it much if that makes sense.

I lean to OCD so have looked at a ton of reviews, too much info out there. I want to stick with smaller towers. Would move the RF42’s to surrounds if I do replace them up front. I am in no rush unless a great deal presents itself. I am also going by my local audio shops consignment room to listen to used speakers and have been doing my local craiglist checks. Currently considering:

Klipsch RP-5000/4000 (I have been fairly satisfied with my RF42’s and these supposedly are not as “bright” as past models)
Airmotiv T1+ (intrigued by the AMT tweeter and diff from the horn I am used to)
Wharfedale Diamond 12.4 (too warm?)
Q Concept 3050i (more music than HT?)
-also considered JBL, Infinity, Ascend, and Chane but narrowed down to above

If you're looking for something different from your Klipsch, I'd put the T1+ at the top of the list. Unlike the other 3, Emotiva offers your choice of 2 very good 3-way center speakers if you upgrade that too later on.

Wharfedale 12x series is reportedly more neutral than warm, due to a complete re-design and using a different speaker designer (the same guy who designed the QA speakers) than in previous generations.

Crutchfield has the Klipsch RP-280F for $399 each right now. If those are to big the Klipsch RP-5000F are also on sale for $332 each at the same place, but the sale ends today at midnight 😉
You could always get the Infinity Reference R263 towers once they go on sale again...

Seems I posted something like that in another thread... lol
And the RP-450C centre for the same price.

Yes you did. That's why I posted it. It was fresh on my mind..😉..🍻
The RP series is noticeably less bright than older sterotypical Reference speakers from Klipsch. If you liked the Reference, you should love the RP.
Thank you for the input. The rp5000 go on and off discount so I figure I will still be able to get that 332 price or less past tomorrow. Thinking I will decide something by labor day hoping for some sales. The infinity does not pass the looks test, waf. Does anyone have any direct comparison experience between the new RP's and the T1+? Room is around 24x12 with 8 foot ceilings. Pic of current front. Thanks again!

All depends on your personal prefs regarding the Klipsch sound signature ... if you love it then by all means wait for the RP5000. If you don't, the Emotivas might be a nice contrast and with that hardwood floor I see in your pic, they'd probably produce a warmer feel but still not lack for clarity due to the AMT tweeters. The other big difference is that the T1+ has dual 6.5" woofers with dedicated 5.25" midrange driver and a true 3 way design whereas the RP5000F are 2-way (or 2.5 way, couldn't find exact spec) with dual 5.25" woofers.

If that's the case then also keep a eye out for the RP6000F going on sale also.
You've had those speakers for 8 years. Your upgrade budget is $1000.00
That is only $125 a year for the next 8 years. Just trying to put your "upgrade" into a broader long range perspective. How much do you enjoy this hobby?
I'm not saying people go crazy with this, but think long term. Invest in happiness!

Yep, the wood does add to the highs I am sure. I got a rug in front of the mlp I took pic from which may offset some and the avr accueq+ helps. It is not the audyssey xt I had in my old rc370 but is not as bad as some folks make it out to be. Maybe I will look at rew when I get more time in my life. I am leaning towards the emo's just to try some diff from Klipsch. If I have to, I would eat the return shipping and go with the 5000's (the 6000 are too big I think for my space).

I do love good sound and especially enjoy live music. If I had the budget I would not hesitate in acquiring a much higher cost system all the way around and a dedicated room to put it in but realistically, $1000 is what I can afford upfront to put out at this time so in the usual position of bang for buck. I want the Bugatti on a Corolla budget lol. If there are any sub $1000 pair to consider I am all ears :)

IMO you won't notice any real difference in going to the RP5000. Certainly not worth the cost. Either go with something much larger like the Emotiva T1 or T2 which falls out of your "small tower" requirement or maybe try the Kef Q550/750 both of which are what I would consider small towers.

I went from the RF62IIs to the Q750 and it was a great upgrade.

You could also wait to see if the JBL 570/580 go on sale again. The 570 is really small and the 580 is what I would consider more medium in size. Similar to the RP6000.
The T1+ would be the biggest I would go so the smaller 550 is intriguing enough that I went down the kef rabbit hole and they sound like they are certainly less bright than Klipsch but still lively andy sub would pick up the low end. I may be able to demo them if they have em at my magnolia room. Anyone compare them against the emo's?

The t1s will have more and deeper bass, more mid bass and are more sensitive. The kefs might have a wider sound stage. Mine in room are just incredible as to the sound stage. Makes HT use seem as if I have front wides and heights.
Update: I ended up going off the AVS rec reservation and ordered a pair of Polk R500 towers and have had them for a week. I will spare you all my OCD details but I came across a decent review with mearsuable data on the R200 books and hours later, said what the hell, I can return them at a decent price from Crutchfield (the emos would have been around 150 I estimated). I went 200 over budget- thanks altpen. ;-). My noob, non-audiophile quick review so far:

I like them.

Music

Less dynamic and much more lively than the smaller klipsch if those terms can coexist- speakers will disappear and the instruments are much more clear and separated and detailed though mesh when they are supposed to; I can hear each string and each key on acoustic guitars and pianos; electric very similar; cymbals crack; clear/clarity? I close my eyes, tap my feet, and move my head with the groove much more. Good at my avg listening volume (maybe 70 avg on my phone spl); retains the sound on higher volumes but I cannot listen as long as I used to in my younger years, too much volume is too much for me after too long; not as bright though I do detect some even though the measurements are pretty flat/neutral; vocals are better defined and full/realer. Singer is right in front of me- forward (this is great on male singers and I am still trying to decide whether I like this or would prefer more in the back on female vocals- Norah Jones/Rachael Price is 2 fwet right in front of me singing, diff to me is in the higher registry). Surprisingly decent and quick bass, I keep my sub off for now to hear it as it is. Will work more at integrating later.

Clear and decently wide soundstage- I can tell a difference the further I am away from the mlp and when I stand up though it still sound good; out of the room like in the kitchen or the dining room that it opens up to still sound better than what I had before.

They are good looking and have an excellent build quality, they are almost 40 lbs each but can be moved around without too much effort.

HT-
Excellent and my klipsch rf42’s are def an upgrade for surrounds. There is a much bigger sense or scale and prescese over the smaller klipsch. Still have not done an action movie but will soon. My holy sheet moment came watching Dark season 2 ep 6 when Hannah and Urich or in the backyard and a thunderstorm starts and then the rain.- the storm was in my living room as realistically as I have ever heard anything before. The sub paired with these are a delight.

I have 60 days will give it another few weeks before I decide to move on or not. It is so hard to economically try speakers these days. I am still pursuing local craig and FB to see if something used pops up but those are no return propositions. I did go to my one remaining audio shop and listened to some paradigmn under 1000 and they did not do anything for me- sounded good but did not get my attention, from memory which I know is suspect, the Polks far outclassed them.

Thanks again folks for all the input and I will return.

That's all that really matters in the end.

However, if you are still open to exploring, another slim-tower option I'd try at its current jaw-dropping sale price that has free return shipping IIRC:

Worth experimenting given that it could save you a nice $900 if you decide they are equal or better than the R500.

PS. Its larger big brother, the R263 is also on sale for just $100 more per pair, if WAF allows.
I had thought about these the last time they were on sale, no WAF. I did order a pair a few days ago for my single bro in law who called and said he was done with his htib so I will get a chance to hear them when I set them up for him in the next week or so.
