Movie Factory 2 and MPEG

238 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tom Roper
Movie Factory 2 from ulead seems to be an easy way to get DVDs authored...not the most flexible program, but quick and easy. My question is how good is the MPEG encoder? Am I better off encoding somewhere else, then authoring and burning via MF2? If I do that, does it re-encode the MPEG using its inferior encoder anyway, or does it not mess with things already encoded?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, it authors the audio in the LPCM audio format which will create a huge audio file size of ~1.3GB for a 2 hour movie. The 2 hour movie then will have a low under 4 mbps bit rate that will produce poorer quality.

Get the Ulead Movie Factory "3", it authors in DD 2.0 which will allow ~5mbps for a 2 hour movie which is very good quality and what stand alone DVD recorders do. Also Ulead MF 3 is made to work with stand alone DVD recorders. For $99, it seems a good piece of software for what it offers although I have never used it.

Have a good one.
Movie Factory 2 that came bundled with my external USB capture device does not author the audio in LPCM, but in MPEG1 Layer 2.

You check the box (lower left corner of screen) for "Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg Video" and it will not re-encode.
