Expect improved access to new-release movie rentals and sellthrough, in addition to repurposed TV programming, when Apple bows the wireless iPad at retail April 3, analysts said.

Apple is taking pre-orders for the multimedia mini-computers (priced starting at $499 for 16GB) beginning March 12.

A wireless model with 3G cellular connection from AT&T will be available later in the month and priced from $629 for 16GB capacity.

With its 10-inch screen, the iPad is considered the next step in the evolution of electronic movie and TV programming for Apple beyond the iPod touch and iPhone. The iTunes Store currently features more than 55,000 TV episodes and 8,500 movies, including more than 2,500 in high-definition.
