I'm looking for a board (or combination of boards) that support the following (in priority order):

1) S-video input

2) real time hardware MPEG-1 encoding

3) supported by DScaler (requires "Brooktree (now Conexant) chips including bt848/878/879" ??)

4) real time hardware MPEG-2 encoding

5) avi capture

6) supported by third party software (e.g. Virtual Dub, WinVCR)

7) tv tuner

My primary goal is to be able to make VCDs from s-video source input without having to do software encoding from captured avi.

My first choice would be an MPEG-1/MPEG-2 encoder from an established company that also supports DScaler (tv tuner optional).

I'm aware of the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR, but I'm concerned about the quality of it's hardware MPEG encoding.

I'd prefer to use a single board (or should I use two boards, and split my s-video input?).

Thanks for any suggestions.

WinTv-PVR is the only one I've heard of that is even remotely supported, but you can't use its hardware encoding with DScaler.

Honestly, I'd say just get a fast computer and do it in software. You'll have lots more control and upgradability.
