I am considering investing in calibration for at least one of my HD capable displays. The primary set is a JVC 56FN97 1080p HD-ILA Rear Projection TV (in service 2 months now) and also considering having our other display calibrated at the same time (Sharp 37GD6U LCD). Using D* HD on both units, Tosh XA1 on JVC, Oppo 971 on Sharp if it matters.


Any experience with locally based service from fellow Minnesotans?


Any of you "Top Guns" travel up to these parts?

Giving this another ride through cyberspace since no one has replied. Tried direct (email) contact on a couple ISF listed tech's for MN which produced a couple dead links and 2 no replies on emails so far. The other listings were primarily AV Equipment Specialist/Store links. I would prefer dealing with someone or some biz specializing in calibration.


I have initiated contact with Greg at Lion AV who seems to be highly regarded around the AVS circles but would consider some potential alternatives or feedback from clients of Greg's if you are willing to share your experiences.

I too have been trying to reach an ISF calibrator in the Twin Cities. I have a Mitsubishi ws-55815 that I'm hoping to improve the dark scenes and shadow details.


I've tried to get a hold of people on the ISF list, but haven't had any luck. Are ISF calibrations out of fad?

I don't know this guy or anything, but I found him through some article that interviewed him about display panels online. Seems to have a pretty good reputation. Looks like he's been doing it for a long time. Anyone want to be the guinea pig? I'm still on the fence about calibrating my set.

How to speak Minnesotan... hello gentlemen (presumptive). Glad to see some av life in the "land of sky blue waters".


I'm unsure if ISf cal's have ever been "in" fad up here. I've never had one done but thought about them after discovering AVS years ago, (though I never joined until recently).


instantpop, any link on that article/interview you saw? I'm going to google it and see if I can track it down. HDTVGUY was one of the emails that has not been returned. I sent that one on the 21st. I would think he should have time to repond. Perhaps I should try once again.

I think HDTV guy is Pat Bradley... I heard he does really good work, but you can't get a hold of him. I've sent 2-3 emails, and everytime I call, I get a message saying his voicemail is full.


I just can not find anyone... sigh... I guess I might have to figure out how to do this greyscale adjustments myself. Anyone with any pointers?

I goggled hdtvguy and I found some forum posts down in Georgia

Maybe he goes south for the winter. Nevertheless despite how good he might be I'm not impressed if he doesn't follow up on things.


I had hoped some of Greg's (Lion AV) previous customers might reply with their experience. He replied promptly and suggested he would be travelling up here in May. This isn't a problem but I still would like to have some other options and get some additional feedback.

Well, since Gregg is considered one of the premier calibrators in the WORLD ... I'd say you would be in good hands. He also teaches the ISF class on behalf of Datacolor.

Thanks for the info Michael. Gregg doesn't blow his horn regarding the ISF connection on the Lion AV site.


From reading his posts he seems to be a likable guy too

Yeah, Pat Bradley is the guy. Sucks that he can't be reached. I was kind of looking forward to getting calibrated now that the break-in on my Pioneer is well passed. I know Best Buy offers calibration services, but I haven't heard any feedback on what kind of a job they do. Anybody here heard anything?


If Gregg is coming this way, maybe we could round up some appointments for AVS guys who are in some desparate need

Pat works for Runco these days, and is mostly taking care of his previous clients when not in Union City.

Gregg would likely make a swing through your area if enough folks signed up to warrant the trip.

I'm sitting on the fence at this point and still have some additional research to conduct before I would commit. Not ruling it at this point.

I'd like to resurrect this thread. Let's get this going.


I'm highly motivated, and would like to hear from others in the Twin Cities that would like to bring a calibrator here.

There isn't anyone in our area that have the qualifications of some of these big guys.

Greg Loewen was here a couple months ago (early June), and I had signed up for a cal with him, but somehow he forgot about me! In any case, he said he would be coming around November again, and he would catch me then if I wanted him.


As it stands, I plan to catch Greg next time he visits, so the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned!

I think I remember seeing a flyer for ISF calibration at StereoLand in Eden Prairie. You may want to check with them.
