MTV thinking about HD in the future?

I just caught the last 30 seconds of a show on MTV called "2 dollar bill" something. I don't know the full title of it. But I've heard about it before and it's where MTV will have concerts with major bands, and you only need to pay 2 bucks to get in, and they play in small venues, and MTV shows the concerts on their channel.

Well anyways, I caught it at the very, very end of the show and the credits were rolling and it said something about HD 24P Production facilities provided by.....

I didn't see the rest, I wasn't really fully paying attention, but it appears that this 2 dollar bill show was filmed with High Definition cameras.

Just makes you say, hmmmm.

I very much look forward to the day when all music videos are shot in HDTV, or are transfered to HD, and shot in 16:9 format, with 2.0 Dolby Digital sound.

So hopefully MTV is thinking towards the future and filming some stuff in High Def now, for rebroadcast later on down the road on a MTV HD channel. You never know. Or this could have been just a random thing, and it could mean nothing at all. Maybe somebody else knows a little more about this?

mtv has filmed stuff in hi def in the past[aerosmith unplugged, allman brothers unplugged and a few others]btw
A recent article over at Multichannel(I think) indicated that MTV was doing some testing / experimenting with HDTV, but did not have plans to launch a HDTV channel anytime in the forseeable future.
I'm not sure, but the reasons for shooting in HD could be that it's cheaper than film (with a "similar" look at the cost of a live tv shoot), looks better than standard def and can be downconverted for sale on DVD in a widescreen format or sold to a network that will use the 24p format (which isn't that sweet to begin with). hell, MTV could downconvert it and have sort of a film look for a video that would look better than a low def production in a small club.
dont think i would like TRL in hidef but the videos would be very nice to see in hidef. something like how they have mtv2 and vh1classic programmed would be sweet in hidef.
for a while there was a test market for an MTV X. It was all metal, industrial, punk and hardcore. that would be great in HD, too.
The Video Music Awards were also shot in HD I believe (although aired in SD)

Looks like MTV is building up a small HD Cache.

Good on them for planning ahead. MTV going HD could actually get me to become a viewer again.
This makes since, because MTV is owned by Viacom, which also has CBS as one of it subsidiaries. Seeing CBS's extreme commitment to HDTV it would make sense that they would try to bring HDTV to other demographic markets and help the advancement of the technology. Good for them!
lol now for the big question. if they do start a HD channel will it air on directv? lol
