Hi All,

Here is the problem:

HP Desktop With Windows Vista Home premium.

Radeon HD3650 Video Card with HDMI port. (No converter used)

Realtek On board Audio.

Yamaha RX v863 Receiver.

5.1 Speakers connected to the AV Receiver using analogue cables.

Have tried connecting HDMI cable alone from the Video card to the receiver, and also tried connecting the SPDIF cable. But cannot get multichannel sound whatsoever.

In Vista, Unless I connect the Analogue cables from the comp to the receiver, I cannot get an option of outputting multichannel sound.

Doesn't matter if its a Game with 5.1 or a DVD with 5.1 i only get sound from the left, right and Sub.

I'm close to pulling my hair out on this one. Any help appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Viktor

Having same problem, wish someone in the know would post an answer. Have been working with HP on it for 7 days. The big question is can the soundcard you have, I suspect a ALC 888s, output surround sound in the digital bit stream.

Have been told it only outputs two channels or just stereo. Wish I could get it out of the HDMI also. Is your HP a m9457c?

I had to update the Realtek Audio driver to v6.0.1.5657, then set up the HDMI sound in Realtek HD Audio Manager, to get mine to work.
