I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for ripping a large library of DVD's.

Currently, I have hooked up 4 dvd players in a single PC and use clone dvd to rip all four movies at the same time (takes about 15-20 minutes for all four movies).

Is there a max number that can be ripped (I doubt I can hook up the theoretical max number of USB devices)...has anyone hooked up a dozen or more dvd drives? Would it be possible, or would it bog the system down so much that it's not worth trying.

I am asking, becuase I can pick up a few refurbished external dvd drives on the cheap.

well look at what the cpu usage/resources are for doing 4 dvd's at once, and then you could roughly get an idea how much more would add.

what I was going to say you could try and find a used sony 200 disc fire wire dvd changer and use that to mass rip movies.

I used to do 3 discs at a time, with an AMD 3800x2, that was about all it could hack, also, I was using internal drives, which are less cpu bound then USB....

This is a link to a guide of how to rip multiple discs using the sony vgp-xl1b series. I personally have been unable to get it to work. However, i have not invested any time at all, and i have multiple units daisy chained, wich might mess it up. http://www.brains-n-brawn.com/defaul...Dir=dvdmassrip . Also, if someone is interested in buying a changer pm me, i have multiple units that have never been used, they are however opened and verified working.
