The peerless 12" XLS is a superb driver that does well in a very small box. It's on sale right now for a buck fifty at PE

This 500W plate amp is also on sale for $250. That's $400 for a pretty nice sub that will play very cleanly in it's dBSPL range.

If you must stay at $350, go for a lighter plate amp.

Bosso

What about a Behringer A500 bridged? They can be found for around $150 and have a rating similar to the plate amp at 8ohm bridged.

Also is the A500 capable on handling a 4ohm load bridged? I only see ratings for 8ohm bridged.

For me it would be the Dayton RSS315HF in 2.5 cuft paired with the Oaudio500 amp. It has a selectable Hp filter with corner boost just above the shelf and 1 channel PeQ for shaping. That just about fits the budget. The low HD characteristic of this driver is pretty much a given. F3 is around 35hz and with the slight boost of the amp and room gain should be flat to 30hz.

If you were looking to build a sub that could do the following: 30-80Hz flat, sealed, small (12in. driver max), not break the bank (~$350 for driver and amp).

Would this be even possible?

1 - flat sounds good on movies, on music you want a house curve.

2 - if you gonna use a single sub you better place it between your speakers and even then it better have low distortion. otherwise it will destroy imaging.

3 - if you want to be safe use stereo subs.

4 - i think you can forget about 30 hz from a sealed 12". yes it will be there but it won't do sh1t for you because it won't be loud enough. all you will hear is the distortion harmonics from it.

The A500 can't be run at 4 ohms bridged. You can run it 8 ohm bridged only or 4/8 ohm stereo.

I currently use an A500 for my CC and I will be adding 3 more for my mains (active x-over), but I've never used one for sub duties.

not sure why you couldn't though.
