Not sure if this thread is appropriate here, but was curious as to others ideas.

What are some of your favorite quotes/lines from song?

Not the complete lyrics to a song, but a simple line (or two) that stands out.

I spent most of the day today listening to music in my HT and was reminded of the power of words ("words & music" - Eddie and the Cruisers).

Some of my favorites (the first two being from the same song):

"Objects in the rearview mirror, may appear closer than they are" - Meatloaf (this lyric doesn't seem so great by itself, but within the context of the song, it's very powerful).

"She used her body just like a bandage, she used my body just like a wound." - Meatloaf

"Oz never did give nothin' to the tin man, that he didn't, didn't already have" - America

"Tell him 'take your time 'cause it won't be long now, 'til you drag your feet just to slow the circle down'" - Joanie Mitchell

"Trouble, oh trouble can't you see, you have made me a wreck now won't you leave me in my misery. I've seen your eyes and I can see death's disguise hangin' on me." - Cat Stevens

"You know a dream is like a river, ever changin' as it flows. And a dreamer's just a vessel, that must follow where it goes." - Garth Brooks

"I'm trying to tell you something 'bout my life. Maybe give me insight between black and white. The best thing you've ever done for me is to help me take my life less seriously - it's only life after all." - Indigo Girls

"And she said 'tell me are you a Christian child?' and I said 'Ma'am I am tonight'" - Marc Cohn

"A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile....." - Don McLean

Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me;

Other times I can barely see.

Lately it occurs to me What a long, strange trip it's been.
"Gonna take off my pants.

And your momma can't stop me-

Your preacher can't stop me-

NO ONE CAN STOP ME!!

Will you take off my pants??"

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky,

Tongue tied & twisted just an earthbound misfit,

I.

Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly
Wish I was down on some blue bayou,

With a bamboo cane stuck in the sand.

But the road I'm on, don't seem to go there,

So I just dream, keep on bein' the way I am.

Wish I enjoyed what makes my living,

Did what I do with a willin' hand.

Some would run, ah, but that ain't like me.

So I just dream and keep on bein' the way I am.

Machine Gun,

tearing my body all apart.

Machine gun, yeah,

tearing my body all apart.

Evil man make me kill you.

Evil man make you kill me.

Evil man make me kill you.

Even though we're only families apart.

Why don't we do it in the road?

Why don't we do it in the road?

No one will be watching us.

Why don't we do it in the road?

--Sir Paul McCartney
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints,

The sinners are much more fun,

Only the good die young.

Billy Joel
We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee;

We don't take no trips on LSD

We don't burn no draft cards down on Main Street;

We like livin' right, and bein' free.

I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee,

A place where even squares can have a ball

We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse,

And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all

We don't make a party out of lovin';

We like holdin' hands and pitchin' woo;

We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy,

Like the hippies out in San Francisco do.

And I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee,

A place where even squares can have a ball.

We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse,

And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all.

I don't smoke marijuana, 'less I got some

I've never rolled a joint...in my sleep

I've never smoked a doobie... down at the courthouse

And I hardly ever make love, to cows or sheep

I'm just an old hippie from Mississippi

A place with red-neck cops in the Klu Klux Klan

Where gonorrhea is a family tradition

And for most of us third grade was a five year plan

Now we can make a party out of damn near nothin'

Whisky, wine, or beer and airplane glue

I hate it when there ain't nothin' left in the baggie

I guess this tiny roach is gonna have to do

Now I ain't growin' marijuana in my garden

Them big weeds just sprung up between the rows of corn

But don't go sprayin' my weeds with Round-Up

I'll make you regret the day that you were born

I'm just an old hippie from Mississippi

A place with red-neck cops in the Klu Klux Klan

And the definition of relative humidity

Is the sweat dripping off-a-you onto your cousin Pam

I keep thinkin' 'bout that night in Memphis,

Lord, I thought I was in Heaven.

I keep thinkin' 'bout that night in Memphis,

I thought I was in Heaven.

But I was stumblin' thru the parking lot

of an invisible 7 Eleven. (Spoken: What was I doin out there?)

"When my fist clenches, crack it open

Before I use it and lose my cool

When I smile, tell me some bad news

Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil

Put your finger down my throat

If I shiver, please give me a blanket

Keep me warm, let me wear your coat"

Once in a while you get shown the light

In the strangest of places if you look at it right

Townshend complained that the show they put on often overshadowed his songs.

"Take me internally,

Forever yours, nocturnal me."

Echo and the Bunnymen

"In the breathless hush of four A.M.

In the dark sits a sad cliche

Cloaked in the navy blue of slowly fading stars

Tell me how this came to be

Sleeplessness talk to me

She'd say over and over again"
