I just bought a new receiver (Pioneer vxx-1014) and I have wanted to find a way to take all of my cd's and store them to a hard drive, so I could play them back easily. I know Yamaha has the musicCast system, which does this. Now I could buy that for about $1500, but I'm pretty sure there must be a way I could build a pc to do this. Being able to control the music with a remore would be important, and having the music quality be cd quality (or close) would be important too. What options for software that helps do this is there, and what are some of the solutions for doing this?

3 quick steps to playing music on your HTPC...

1. Rip all your CD's with the ripper of your choice, most offer lossless option (do a simple search on CD rippers if your don't know which ripper to use).

2. Download and install Music Player of your choice (or just use WiMP, which comes with every Windows).

3. Buy a remote of your choice (go do a search on remotes), use it to play music.

Voila! Enjoy.

Seriously, do some research on many threads here. You will find that everything you are asking for is all here already.

HTPC with Meedio front-end with the J.River plug-in! this is an excellent choice for a music library, plus it will cost you for a high-end HTPC $1000 vs. $1500 for that yamaha thingy, plus you will be able to do alot more options with this HTPC after you stick around this forum :D
