Must-Have Multichannel Discs?

927 Views 17 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Mattsushiba
There are more titles than I thought for SACD & DVD-A. Can anyone point me to a list of must-have multichannel discs?

I already own one: The Flaming Lips DVD-A & it's awesome!

If you like her music, Norah Jones is a great SACD. I thought the Redbook CD was good, but the SACD is even better.
i found that
www.sendmemovies.com

has a huge selection of dvda and sa-cd at affordable prices.

But to stick with the topic, so far I really enjoy my Metallica black DVD-A. I use that to demo (track 8) especially to people. The plucking of the guitars sounds amazing.
"Diana Krall: Live In Paris" is one of the best DD/DTS concert disks ever even though it isn't DVD-A. Even if you don't like vocal jazz, anyone can admire the sound from that disk. Plus she ain't bad to look at either........;) .

Very true. Best recorded "live" concert sound I've ever heard. Doesn't have any of the echo, muddy sound, off key singing you usually hear from concert DVD's. The DTS track is especially good. At least 6 rooms at the CES High End Show were using this as a demo disc. One of my favorites...

John
Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon is a must-have (multichannel hybrid SACD).

a couple of other discs you must have are;

Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (DTS)

Chris Whitley - Perfect Day (SACD)

Casals / Durufle / Gaudeamus / Halley / Stanford - Sacred Feast (HYBRID SACD)

Lyle Lovett - Joshua Judges Ruth (DTS)

Sheryl Crow - Globe Sessions (DTS 6.1)

Steve Stevens - Flamenco A-Go-Go (DVD-A/DTS)

Chorzempa / Moussorgsky / Saint-Saens - Symphony 3 Pictures at an Exhibition (hybrid)

Blue Man Group - Audio (DVD-A) would be a must have in my book. You are completely surrounded by the percussion.

And ditto that when they release their second album, The Complex, in multi-channel later this year.
SACD - All the Dylan re-releases, Nora Jones, DSOTM; Cheap Thrills, Big Brother and the Holding Co.

DVD-A: Harvest, Neil Young; American Beauty, Greatful Dead; Hotel California, Eagles; Two Against Nature, Steely Dan;

And if you are a fan of Peter Gabriel, get the concert DVD "Growing Up". No, it's not hi-rez, but the Dolby 5.1 is excellent, and it is one kick a$$ concert.

I just picked this up today. I gotta tellya, the beginning of "Money" at reference level through my Ref50 & SCD-C555ES player is un-F-ing real. I was laughing out loud how cool the cash register sounded spinning from one speaker to the next.

I agree. This is how PF was meant to sound, IMHO. (I am too young to remember the quad days).
