"Word has been leaked that Warner has plans to release new HD transfers of the 1962 Mutiny on the Bounty, a 65mm anamorphic production, as well as Forbidden Planet (CinemaScope) in November.

Apparently additional unused footage has been found and may appear as an extra for FP.

BD discs will follow in early 2007.

RAH"

Wow all I have to say is HD DVD just gets better every day. :)

Wow... :D
I remember that a while ago cjplay hinted that he was working on a film from 1962, that was filmed on 65mm.
FP - Yowser! This will be the prize jewel of my collection (until 2001 comes along).

I am looking forward to the day when I can repeat an experience I had at Valhalla cinema in Sydney many moons ago - Forbidden Planet followed by 2001 - man, that was gold, pure gold.

The only film Warners owns/controls that was filmed in 65mm in 1962 is Mutiny on the Bounty IMO. (Originally MGM.)

It was recently shown on HDNet Movies, very nice transfer and sound.

OAR is 2.6 on this one, filmed in UltraPanavision 70. Tremendous score by Bronislau Kaper.

This should be great selection.

I will buy both of these releases. After having my jaw drop watching Robin Hood, I'm in cinema heaven!
Yes, the more oldies the better. Both of these are no-brainer purchases for me. And I hope that many more follow.

I'm still hoping for The Maltese Falcon before the end of the year.
wow, sounds great!
It's magical how great Warner is able to make their oldies look. I'll buy any 30+ year old movie they put out. Keep 'em coming! :)

ditto
I get to see Anne Francis in HD lol. :)
I thought that Forbiden Planet wasnt comming until next year when Warner does the big redo version for SD.
Forbidden Planet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea Baby Yea ! This movie was shown somew time ago on HDNet movies and it blew away the DVD but still could be cleaned up a bit. Also it was rather bit starved in places but this will be a slam dunk. :) So this has been restored ?

Art
These two titles will be part of my collection right away. I love HD DVD and Warner
wasn't there a recent Forbidden Planet DVD release? if so it has been restored

Art I saw FP on HDNet from a non compressed full resolution provider, it was a beauty, if the HD-DVD can look any better than what I saw then It will amaze me, the HDNet showing is most likely what it will look like on HD-DVD, it had a few sports here and there but that kind of stuff has never been a issue to me, film is film, it looked restored, but you never know, Warner is so good at keeping their movies pristine :)

Mutiny was also on HDNet, it looked as good as FP, these are both what they will look like on HD-DVD and I would bet money on it

Well, there's a 2-disc 50th anniversary special edition coming on DVD November 14th.

Given that Warner seems to always remaster a title when they re-release it, that should answer your question. :)
