Got my mx-850 today. Most programming can be done by simply selecting from the IR Database.

The programming software is not bad. The IR Database is somewhat awkward to use when switching from one device to another. Testing, although a nice feature, requires your PC to be next to the AV equipment.

My issues are:

1. I programmed the remote to control the Sony STR-DE985 receiver by adding it from the IR Database audio section. Nothing happened.

2. There is no entry in the IR Database to control the IR543 "Infrared Command Center" (to control SmartHome LampLinc V2 plug-in light dimmers).

3. There is no entry in the IR Database to control the Panasonic PT-AE100U projector. I see a PL-AE900U, but no other similar choices.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Edmund: I already did that. I am still unable to control the STR-DE985.

Good news: The PL-AE900U projector code works on the PT-AX100U!

Any thoughts out there about how to control the IR543 Infrared Command Center? I bought the starter kit from Smarthome.com, which includes the 5-in-1 RF/IR remote and two LampLinc V2 modules; so I supose the MX-850 will have to "learn" the commands from the 5-in-1 remote.

I finally got the IR543 X-10 box to respond to the mx-850 remote!

In the MX-850 Editor, I defined a new device called "Light." Once I did that, a number of items appeared in the IR Database under the "Light" section. X-10 is one of the brands listed. Model [X-10 2] worked for me.

I've been playuing with the Sony receiver remote, and now think the issue is related to the command mode. According to the manual "You can switch the command mode (AV1 or AV2) of the remote. If the command mode of the receiver and the remote is different, you cannot use the remote to operate the receiver."

I did this with the original remote. I was unable to get any response to the mx-850 until I pushed a button on the LCD menu, page 2, called "Source." Then the receiver asked for a source for the second room. I think this means that the remote is currently programmed with the correct code. I just need to switch the command mode on the mx-850.
