Just in the past couple weeks my ~7 month old PS3 has started to freeze. This is not online freezing and I have never played the game that is causing so many freezing issues for others. Only MLB the show and MGS4.

Never had one freeze before this started.

Is this an 'update' problem that others are having or is my unit taking a plunge?

I think you're unit is about to die. This would be a good time to exchange it while you still have warranty coverage.

I just got off the phone with Sont c.s. and she told me that I could send it in and they would either try to fix it or send me a refurbished unit.

This unit has performed flawlessly up until now so I'd rather not get a refurbished 'pot luck' unit in return.

I wish I had bought the two year replacement plan at BB when I bought this.

How long should I expect to be without a machine from the day I ship mine out?

My Nov. 07 40 GB also freezes lately. I've only played LEGO Indiana Jones, but we've frozen near the end of several levels.

I hope it's just the game.

I'm freezing everytime I play my only disc(right now) which is MLB 08 The Show.

And it is always in about the 8th inning.

I'm wondering how long Sony will make me wait to get a used unit back?

My PS3 died and I got the refurb rather quick.

Don't be pissed you didn't get the 2 year replacement plan. My friend did that for his 360 (which died) and got told he still has to use Microsoft while the Microsoft warranty exists...and the store 2 year warranty plan starts afterwards. So they may have forced you to get the refurb from Sony anyways.

The refurbs are not as bad as people make them out to be.

They are a lot more quiet.

Do you remember about how long?

I wouldn't mind a little less fan noise, but mine isn't loud.
