I installed an 8vsb off-air tuner module into my 6000

receiver and It is acting strange. The fan is on when

the receiver is off. It also runs when the receiver is

on, however, when I shut the receiver off the fan stops

while the receiver shuts down, then starts up again

after the receiver is off. What gives?? It seems that

perhaps the thermostat for the fan is stuck on???

Any ideas??

Jon.

That is normal. The fan does run all the time. Maybe it shouldn't, but that's the way Dish set it up.

I personally know of 1 person who cut the top cover off his 8vsb module and snipped the wires to the fan. It's been several months of hard use and no problems as yet. He has plenty of clearance above the Dish 6000 unit for heat dissapation.

It is a slightly risky option if you can not live with the fan noise.

Mine has quieted down tremendously over the past 7 months that I have had it installed. I can barely here it running.

krustyone,

If the noise from the fan is to loud, you should call Dish, they should replace the module for free.

Unfortunatly, it will run 24/7.

Some people report that Dish exchanged their module and others have said that Dish said too bad that is the way it is so if you go that route you may need to call back several times to get someone who will RMA it for you. Also someone at www.homtheaterspot.com and maybe someone here as well put a resistor in line with the fan thus slowing it down and making the noise nearly inaudible. It seemslike resonance of the shield is the problem so any change in speed should help that.

Thanks vic, that's just crazy, but I guess I've

seen wierder things. That kind of sucks, I dont want

to listen to that damn thing 24 7.

Do do do do Do do do do

The fan in my Unity Motion HDTV receiver does the same thing! Several UM owners have reported "early" fan deaths and have been replacing them. Once I realized that this was going on (it took a while because of all the PC fans in this room) I put the UM and its dedicated antenna preamp and rotor on a seperate power strip. When it's not in use, I flip the strip off. Saves powering the rooftop preamp 24/7 as well.
